Ever notice how a change of scenery can shift your whole mood?

One of our sessions this week happened between a car park and a boat, and it turned into the best kind of unpredictable. Creativity does not need a perfect setting. It needs space to show up as you are.

Ever had a week where just getting through the day felt like the achievement?

That's exactly where one of our RYTC students found themselves recently. Managing a complex diagnosis, sleep all over the place, eating difficult, medication being readjusted again as they get older. A genuinely tough week.

But they showed up. To every single session. Cheerful, curious, contributing ideas and doing their own research, even while everything else felt unsteady. And just as importantly, they felt safe enough to tell us how hard it had actually been.

That's the kind of win we love to celebrate at RYTC. Not just the output, but the showing up, the honesty, and the resilience behind it.

Have you ever watched a young person open up the second no one's asking them to "perform"?

That's what happens in our creative arts sessions, every time. We use drama, film and music as tools, not performances, to help young people work through what's actually going on for them. No script to get right, no audience to impress, just a safe way in.

We call it brilliantly underestimated: meeting learners exactly where they are, then building their confidence and celebrating their strengths from there.

It's also why we keep getting recognised, from Prestige Awards to our recent Trailblazer Award. But that's really just proof the work is landing where it needs to.

Everyone's happy place is different. Mine is a windy park with my dog running after a ball. For one of my students, the idea of a family holiday was enough to bring on real anxiety.

She's usually the one cracking jokes and laughing at me. This time she went quiet, and it took a while before she felt able to tell me why. New place, new people, no routine, it all felt overwhelming to her, even though most people would be excited.

That moment, her trusting me enough to say it out loud, is exactly why RYTC uses creative arts, theatre, film, and music to help young people process what they can't always put into words.

Inclusion is not only about whether a young person is present.

It is about whether they feel safe enough to take part, confident enough to be heard, and supported enough to believe they belong.
