Children co-create, devise, and direct as well as perform, building confidence, self-awareness, and collaboration skills. School are killing creativity so we built the creative academy

We deliver dynamic creative arts programmes specially designed to unlock children’s potential, from weekly sessions to immersive residentials and therapeutic interventions. This isn’t performing arts, this is crea

tive development - children co-create, devise, design and direct, as well as perform. They take ownership of their ideas and foster a healthy self-narrative and growth mindset. All our sessions are trauma informed and grounded in cutting edge neuroscience, psychology and therapeutic practice. Children develop self-awareness and the life skills that matter most - confidence, communication and collaboration. Our mission is simple - transform children’s lives through creative expression and emotional wellbeing, so they can thrive in a world the education system is not preparing them for.

Something we’re increasingly seeing is how concerned children are with getting things wrong. This can look like avoiding the activity altogether, or more subtle signs such as constantly checking in with adults ‘do you mean this, or this?’ ‘Can I do this?’ ‘Does this work?’ ‘Is this right?’

We’re aiming to be the antidote to this worry - it’s ok to experiment, to have a go, to play, to get things wrong (although it’s rare for something to actually be ‘wrong’). The children feel secure in the environment, the more they begin to trust themselves and their ideas. Naturally, what they start making becomes a lot more fulfilling and exciting, which further boosts their self-esteem.

It’s a pretty rewarding process to witness, but sadly one that needs to occur more than it ought to.

What are your thoughts on where this ‘fear of failure’ comes from?

✍️ Some of the original illustrations of Peter Pan!

‘Barrie never described Peter's appearance in detail, even in his novel, leaving it to the imagination of the reader and the interpretation of anyone adapting the character.’

One of the best parts of making theatre is exploring character interpretation. A good actor will know what their character loves, what frightens them, what they value most in the world, even if these things aren’t explicitly written into the script.

💫 How they look is just one tiny part of the process. We’re going for the version of Pan in green, which became prominent in the 1920s.

JM Barrie is a theatre maker’s dream writer and perfect for our style - leaving much open to the imagination 💚

Did you know that JM Barrie was a devoted supporter of GOSH and gifted them the copyright and the rights to all stage productions of Peter Pan?

Although the original copyright expired in 1987, a unique amendment to the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act was passed in 1988. This law guarantees that GOSH retains the right to royalties from all stage performances, adaptations, and publications of Peter Pan in the UK in perpetuity.

This means a percentage of all ticket sales for our production of Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure go to this remarkable charity.

Whilst most children delight in reading or listening to Peter Pan, others have had their lives saved by GOSH thanks, in small part, to the story. It seems pretty perfect, then, that its children who are bringing it to life 💚 💙

Rehearsals with the lost boys are pretty fun

What's the number one reason you go to the theatre?

What they said!!

Very excited for this talented cast. They’re completely leaning in to our organic approach and Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure is the perfect production to showcase their skills.

It isn’t about huge production values and technical effects, or glitz and glam that feels one step removed from reality. This is real, authentic storytelling 🧡

More children deserve to feel the joy of singing in a choir!

Help us spread the word about our awesome youth choir. No experience is required and our trauma-informed approach means we specialise in working with quiet, anxious children.

We’ve seen children go from being reluctant to let go of their parent’s hands to singing solos to a packed audience. More importantly, this growth in self-esteem impacts other areas of their life too:

🏫 Increased engagement in school
🫂Expanded friendship groups
🛼 Trying other activities they’ve not felt ready for before.

Just 90mins a week could be transformative and any child aged 7-18 can try a session or two for free with no obligations, so give this post a like and a share - thank you 🙏
