Do yall have a belly full of chocolate? I hope so! Make a cuppa and have a wee read at my story 😊
What a year it’s been for us all! Who knew this time last year we would all still be in this mess. I do whole heartedly believe though that our rainbow is just around the corner and things are getting better. Very few things in this world effects us all but unfortunately coronavirus and cancer is something that doesn’t care where, who or what we are.
We are very fortunate that in the uk things are gradually returning to (the new) normal. Most of our high risk categories have now been immunised and I finally have a date of 26th April to be able to return to work.
My superhero dad battled oesophageal cancer for 5 years along with some other cruel illnesses including Alzheimer’s. Unfortunately early in December 2020 he contracted COVID-19, was admitted to hospital and passed away on Christmas Eve. Ultimately cancer took him from us but Covid prevented us from spending the time with him we should have or being able to give him the send off he deserved. In time we will all learn to live with covid but cancer is something we’re still far away from beating so I want to raise some money in his memory to go towards helping others and hopefully one day we can all live in a world without threat of any of these big C’s!
A very good friend of mine called Lynn bravely battled cancer. It was a long hard journey but like the warrior she is she came out victorious and was awarded the all clear not long before the first lockdown. Just as her life could start again she was made to shield at home with her family with the constant fear the of contracting the virus and what that would mean for her and her compromised immune system. Like always though she made the most of things, enjoyed the new way of life the best she could and went out walking in the hills with her dog as much as she could. Always full of ideas Lynn suggested I should set up my bears in the garden for the local kids to see and make people smile. From that suggestion was born the Coronabears!
Since our kids have been able to go back to school Lynn and I have been walking the local hills together when we can. We are both very hopeful that our rainbow after this storm is coming so wanted to do something fun before our strict lockdown rules in Scotland relax on the 26th of April.
Race for life encourages you to walk, run, cycle, scoot or whatever you like for 5k to raise money for cancer. We have decided to walk 10k in and around Largs on Thursday 22nd of April. I’ll be carrying Hope on my back and Lynn will be carrying Rainbow, will post lots of photos on the day and hopefully see lots of people in passing.
We raised nearly 10k last year for three charities so I’m not looking necessarily to raise a lot of money predominantly want to raise peoples mood, spread love and joy and let you all know that things WILL get better!
Bear hugs to you all near and far! If you want to donate a small amount follow the link below 🐻🌈🐻
