I get asked a lot if we offer smiley piercings. The answer is yes but there’s are a lot of things I would discuss fully before proceeding with this piercing

A smiley piercing (or frenulum piercing) goes through the thin flap of tissue connecting the inside of your upper lip to your upper gums. Hidden when your mouth is closed, it only peeks out when you smile. A smiley piercing is a quick, highly discreet oral modification that accentuates your grin.

Pros to a smiley piercing:
⭐️ It stays hidden under your lip during a normal expression. You can easily conceal it in corporate or formal environments by keeping a straight face, revealing the jewellery only when you smile.

⭐️ Because the tissue in the upper lip frenulum is very thin and has fewer nerve endings than cartilage, the piercing process is usually described as a quick, mild pinch. This piercing heals super quick compared to other piercings due to how thin the frenulum is.

⭐️ Once healed, it’s easy to change up your look using lightweight jewelry like circular barbells, captive bead rings, or seamless hoops that pop into view when you grin.

Cons:
⭐️ Because the jewelry sits directly against your teeth, it can chip enamel or cause your gums to recede. This is a very high maintainer oral piercing

⭐️ Due to the frenulum being so thin, the body can easily reject the jewellery, or the piercing can accidentally tear if snagged.

⭐️ If your frenulum is too small or thin then may be told that you lack the anatomy for it

How amazing is this triple vertical helix Mohawk 😍

A vertical helix is a cartilage piercing that goes vertically through the ear rim, rather than horizontally.

This creates a stacked or “up-and-down” appearance, allowing both ends of the jewellery to be visible. It offers a modern, bold twist on the traditional ear piercing.

Requires a prominent, stable ridge of cartilage with enough space underneath for the jewelry to sit comfortably.
This client has a prominent ridge so once the jewellery is downsized the underside can be hidden which allows for chandelier-style or dangle jewelry that hangs beneath the ear fold.

Dermals!!
These confuse a lot of people and leave them questioning how it’s attached or in the skin as it’s not like a piercing so I’ve put together a little explanation. These look amazing and can go anywhere so always one of my favourites to do 😍

A dermal piercing (or microdermal) is a single point surface piercing. A flat anchor sits beneath the skin, leaving a threaded post exposed for attaching interchangeable jewellery.
It can be placed almost anywhere on the body, though they are temporary and prone to snagging. The base remains under the skin (see picture two) allowing interchangeable tops to be attached.

⭐️ A piercer uses a dermal punch or needle to create a tiny pouch in the skin, then inserts the flat anchor base using specialized pliers or clamps.

⭐️ Implant-grade titanium is the safest material to ensure your body accepts the anchor.

⭐️ Dermals are rarely permanent. They typically last anywhere from a few months to a few years before your body naturally rejects them or they need to be removed.

⭐️ If you need to remove the anchor or it rejects, the procedure must be done by a professional. It may leave a small scar. Please don’t attempt to remove these yourself.

Check out this awesome surface bar done for a client 🥰

⭐️ A surface barbell piercing runs horizontally through a flat area of skin using a specially designed, staple-shaped bar. It leaves just the decorative ends visible (like balls or gems). The ends can be replaced and swapped out once the piercing has healed

⭐️ Jewellery used is a staple shaped bar to reduce pressure on the skin, rather than a straight or curved barbell. These can be 45 or 90 degree angles

⭐️ Must be pierced with high-quality, hypoallergenic metals like ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium to prevent irritation

⭐️ These are considered long term temporary piercings and while some people will have them for years and years, others may migrate and reject very early on

Client had naturally plump lips and a great shape so I emphasised what she already had adding definition, volume and symmetry with filler but still keeping them natural looking
