ACCESSIBILITY & ADDITIONAL NEEDS AT SLAYERS INK
At Slayers Ink, we want our studio to be as welcoming and accessible as we reasonably can.
We understand that everyone’s needs are different. If you have a disability, mobility requirement, sensory or communication need, or require any other reasonable adjustment to access our services, please let us know when booking wherever possible.
This gives us the best opportunity to understand what you need and make suitable arrangements before your appointment.
If you’re unsure whether we can accommodate a particular requirement, please get in touch and have a chat with us.
WHEELCHAIR & MOBILITY ACCESS
We have one ground-floor tattoo/piercing space available for clients who are unable to access our other treatment areas.
Access to the studio has a 77cm-wide threshold with an approximately 4-inch (10cm) step.
Due to the layout of the public footpath directly outside the studio and the barriers separating the footpath from the main road, providing a ramp that would allow safe, unassisted wheelchair access has unfortunately not been viable at this time.
Where it is safe and appropriate to do so, a member of the Slayers Ink team can assist you with access into and out of the studio.
We appreciate that wheelchairs and mobility aids vary considerably and that assisted access over the threshold may not be suitable for everyone. If you use a wheelchair or mobility aid, please let us know when booking so that we can discuss your individual requirements and the access arrangements with you before your visit.
Unfortunately, we do not have ground-floor toilet facilities within the studio.
Accessible toilet facilities are available at Market Gate car park, approximately 3 minutes around the corner from the studio. These facilities are accessible with use of a RADAR key which we can provide. Our team will be happy to show you where they are if required.
As we currently have one accessible ground-floor treatment space, it is important that you let us know about your access requirements when booking so we can make sure this space is available for your appointment.
NEURODIVERGENCE & SENSORY NEEDS
Our studio can be a busy environment. We normally play music and there may be several artists, piercers and clients in the studio at the same time.
We understand that noise, conversation, music, visual stimulation and a busy environment can be difficult or overwhelming for some people, including autistic and otherwise neurodivergent clients and those with sensory processing differences.
Please let us know if you have sensory or environmental requirements. Where reasonably possible, we can make adjustments such as:
* lowering or turning off the music;
* asking those nearby to keep conversation and noise to a minimum;
* using a privacy screen around the treatment area to help reduce visual stimulation and provide additional privacy;
* explaining what will happen before and during your appointment;
* giving you additional processing time;
* taking agreed breaks during your appointment; and
* reducing unnecessary interruptions where possible.
We cannot guarantee a completely silent or empty studio, but we will always do our best to make the environment more comfortable for you.
PRIVACY
We have a privacy screen available on request for any client who would feel more comfortable with additional privacy during their appointment.
You do not need to have a disability or explain why you would like to use it. Just let a member of our team know.
Where possible, letting us know when you book will help us prepare the treatment space before you arrive.
ASSISTANCE DOGS
Assistance dogs, including guide dogs, are welcome at Slayers Ink.
Where possible, please let us know before your appointment if you will be accompanied by an assistance dog. This helps us plan the studio environment and make appropriate arrangements for everyone attending that day.
During your treatment, your assistance dog will need to remain under control and positioned safely with you, for example beside or underneath the treatment bed where appropriate.
For hygiene and safety reasons, assistance dogs cannot wander freely around the working areas of the studio.
If your assistance dog’s needs mean that this arrangement would not be suitable, please contact us before your appointment so we can discuss what arrangements may be possible.
BLIND & PARTIALLY SIGHTED CLIENTS
We can provide large-print versions of our client information, care information and aftercare instructions upon request.
A member of our team can also assist you with reading or completing documentation if required.
We are happy to verbally explain your treatment, aftercare instructions and the studio environment, and can provide assistance navigating the studio where required.
If there is a particular format or communication method that makes information more accessible to you, please ask and we will do our best to accommodate it.
DEAF & HARD-OF-HEARING CLIENTS
We always provide written treatment and aftercare information to our clients.
If you are Deaf or hard of hearing, please let us know if there is a particular way you would prefer us to communicate with you during your appointment.
We can make communication adjustments, including using a whiteboard or written communication during your appointment where required.
We do not currently have the resources to provide a BSL interpreter. If you use a BSL interpreter, communication support worker or other support person and would like them to accompany you to your appointment, please let us know when booking so that we can make appropriate arrangements within the treatment space.
We will always do our best to communicate clearly and in a way that works for you.
LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH
We can provide translated client information and aftercare documentation upon request, where available.
If English is not your first language, please contact us before your appointment and let us know which language you require. This gives us time to prepare the appropriate information wherever possible.
SUPPORT PERSONS & CARERS
If you need a carer, personal assistant, interpreter, communication support worker or other support person with you because of a disability or additional need, they are welcome to accompany you.
Please let us know when booking wherever possible.
Space within our treatment areas can be limited, particularly where equipment needs to be positioned safely, so advance notice helps us make suitable arrangements.
ANXIETY, NEEDLE PHOBIA & ADDITIONAL SUPPORT
We understand that tattoo and piercing appointments can be stressful for some people, particularly if you experience anxiety, needle phobia or find unfamiliar environments or procedures difficult.
Please feel free to tell us what would make your appointment easier.
Where appropriate, we can:
* explain what is going to happen before we begin;
* explain each stage as we go;
* agree how much or how little you’d like us to talk about the procedure;
* give you additional time to process information;
* agree breaks during your appointment; and
* make reasonable adjustments to help you feel more comfortable.
You are always welcome to ask us to explain something again or tell us that you need a moment.
INDIVIDUAL ADJUSTMENTS
Accessibility isn’t the same for everyone, and it isn’t possible for this page to cover every person’s individual requirements.
If there is something that would make accessing Slayers Ink easier for you, please ask us.
We cannot guarantee that every adjustment will be possible because of the physical limitations of our premises and the hygiene and safety requirements associated with tattooing and piercing.
However, we will listen to your requirements and will make reasonable adjustments wherever we can.
Where possible, please contact us when booking or as early as possible before your appointment to discuss any accessibility requirements. This gives us the best opportunity to make suitable arrangements for you.
If you’re unsure whether Slayers Ink will be accessible for you, please get in touch. We’re happy to talk through your needs before you book or visit the studio.
