We have been getting ready to open our studios and gallery on Saturday 12th September (from 11-4) for this year's Heritage Open Days event.
Come and explore the normally secret world of artists and chat with the artists in their creative workspaces. We have also set up an exhibition in the gallery showing a range of creative processes: oil painting, drawings in different media, sculpture, 3D constructions, printmaking, acrylic paintings and more.
We are all looking forward to seeing and chatting with you.

In this session we will explore some methods and approaches for sculpting in clay.

We will start to explore sculptural form and working from our own intuition. Clay is a very malleable medium and provides lots of responses for makers to explore.

By the end of the session you will have the opportunity to have created two forms in terracotta, which will be fired after the session and returned to you on the Collection Date.

This workshop is for adults; no previous experience of working with clay needed!

Compressed charcoal is a very flexible material and capable of producing subtle as well as expressive and dramatic images. During this session we will explore mark making techniques for both line and tone. We will also talk about drawing in general and its different functions and purposes, whilst we work with different images and develop a completed drawing to take home. I also invite you to bring in an image of a subject you might be interested drawing from or it could be another famous artists drawing to contribute to the discussion.

All materials will be provided along with light refreshments.

The symbolic nature of images is sometimes easy to overlook. In Winter Tree I see a calm centre of blue held in the core of the tree; on the left spiky almost thorn-like branches whilst on the right smooth flowing calm branches with a sense of freedom. So much that could be talked about. What is the tree a symbol of? Reading Thom's statements might offer a clue.

Thom Draven's paintings can still be seen in our online exhibition. This image: 'Study for Green Clown' presents us with what appears to be an unfinished painting. A work in progess. Or is it? I sometimes feel we are all works in progress, evolving and developing with each new experience and each day that passes. It is sometimes worth reflecting on our life journey; where we are, where we have been and where we might be going!

Wow! A totally unique, inspiring, emotional and human journey told through artwork. It was an honor to view these paintings.

I didn't realise this was here, I just saw the poster and had to come up to see - your paintings are gripping in a way, deeply personal and shared with those who care to see it. Your art spanning 5+ years and transferring from paper to large canvas, really struck me - I think the one that even writing I keep looking back at is despair, something about the simple face style and pose really feels like you can feel it too. Thank you.

Amazing - your paintings show the many pressures that today brings to us all. You have a talent that is very expressive of your feelings. Best wishes for the future.

Different rhythms, colour, texture and shape within paint marks on the surface of a canvas. They all contribute to the building of an image, an allusion of a reality. Something to react to, ask questions about, be inspired by!

Symbolic mark making. Making visible the invisible. That is the beauty of creativity, where simple materials such as paint can be used by the way it is applied to broaden our ability to tell stories, share something that might make us see the world a little differently.
