Shakespeare in Lamyatt held its inaugural production in the gardens of Speeds Farm in 2011 after founders Simone and David Ash moved into this pretty Somerset village. The aim was to raise funds for both our picturesque church of St Mary & St John and the then tiny village hall which has now undergone expansion and improvement in 2016. A team was put together late in 2010 to begin the process of o
rganising what was then to be a one-off event. It was soon decided that the only way to ensure an entertaining, high quality production was to bring in a professional company of actors. After much deliberation, Theatre Set-Up came to Lamyatt and performed Much Ado about Nothing in 2011. The evening was a great success and it was decided to make this an annual fund-raising event in the village calendar. In 2011 Theatre Set-Up joined forces with the larger Festival Players Theatre Group who have performed for us since. Twelfth Night in 2012
A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2013 - our first all-male production
The Comedy of Errors in 2014
As You Like It in 2015
Hamlet 2016
The Merry Wives of Windsor 2017
And they will be with us again this year, 2018, when they perform the often overlooked The Winter's Tale.. Our event has gone from strength to strength and we now open the gates to an audience of around 400 people. Tickets go on sale around 6 weeks before the production date and can be purchased by visiting our website www.shakespeareinlamyatt.co.uk.. Our success is due in part to much appreciated sponsorship from local businesses and if you are interested in becoming one of our growing group of sponsors please get in touch with David Ash on 01749 812031. Sponsorship starts from just £60, and is a great way to be seen to be involved with a lively growing village event.
