Art lover and collector Eric Robinson (1930 – 2024), was born in Stoke on Trent but had lived in Edinburgh since the mid-1980s and most of his large art collection was displayed in his elegant New Town flat.
The collection dated from about 1500 to the present day and included 19th, 20th and 21st century Scottish artists; European graphic work and textiles.
It was his wish that his collection be given to public collections on his death and Gracefield Arts Centre was honoured to be a recipient of the largest single bequest, facilitated by the Art Fund UK.
Kirkcudbright Galleries are delighted to work with our sister venue Gracefield, to be able to bring this show to Kirkcudbright.
The 77 works include key Scottish artists such as Joan Eardley, Elizabeth Blackadder, Robert Colquhoun, alongside important internationally renowned artists like David Hockney and Paula Rego.
Although his collection was assembled with a limited budget, he proved that with confidence, it is still possible to buy and be surrounded by beautiful objects – he enjoyed them every day of his life.
