The Westmorland Dales Festival is coming back to Kirkby Stephen on the weekend of 25 & 26 July 2026!

Join us for family fun in Kirkby Stephen Market Square on Saturday 25 July from 1000 to 1600.

• Have a go at music-making with Drum & Brass or eco-inspired crafts with Lakeland Arts
• Fuel up for the weekend with coffee, Cumbrian gelato & donuts
• Say hello to Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Friends of the Settle to Carlisle Line, Eden Animal Rescue & our local Police Community Support Officer
• Meet and chat with the Festival team, pick up a free weekend programme & a 'Where's Woolly' treasure hunt entry form!

With the Festival fast approaching we're delighted that once again the Stainmore Railway Company will be joining in our celebration of life in the Westmorland Dales!

Come along on the Festival's fun-packed Sunday (26 July) and head to Kirkby Stephen East station between 1000 and 1600 where you'll find a diesel-hauled train service using wonderful vintage carriages from the early 1900s, as well as offering refreshments in the glamorous buffet car.

You can also browse the Company's other fascinating rolling stock at their various stages of restoration and repair on site.

Entrance is free but a charge will apply to train rides.

Want to know more about the Westmorland Dales? On Saturday 25 July you can enjoy a Cumbria Classic Coach tour of some iconic beauty spots.

Join David Evans, Scheme Manager of the former Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership, on board a Cumbria Classic Coach for a whistlestop tour.

Featuring some of the loveliest landscapes and villages in the Westmorland Dales as well as discussions about local history, geology, farming and archaeology, highlights include Nateby, Mallerstang to Pendragon Castle and over to Ravenstonedale - and there might be the odd surprise, too!

The tour runs from 16:15 to 18:15 and starts at the bus stop outside Costa, Kirkby Stephen.

It's now less than two months until The Westmorland Dales Festival begins! Running across the weekend of 25-26 July, we're celebrating the culture and heritage of our beautiful area.

On Saturday 25 July you can enjoy walking tours of Orton and Great Asby. Discover these historic villages and learn all about their past residents.

These two-hour walks begin at 1030am, but places are limited, so head to westmorlanddalesfestival.org/events to book your spot.
