We're looking forward to our two late openings this weekend - and staying open late gives us a fabulous opportunity to share some extra talks, too, as we delve into the realms of magical beliefs, witches and superstitions.

Join us to learn about magical protections marks, beginning in Stang End cottage with our very special witch post, before heading over to learn about the daisy wheel markings in historic Harome Hall.

You can hear these 15-minute talks throughout the weekend:
✨Saturday 20 June – 11:30am and 6pm
✨Sunday 21 June – 12pm, 3pm and 6:30pm

They're free - included in your entry. It's all part of our weekend-long celebrations to mark the solstice!

We're soooooo close now to our exciting weekend of solstice celebrations at the museum!

Did you catch our feature in the Yorkshire Post, written by our events coordinator Rosie and exploring why now feels like the perfect time to launch this new event? It's all part of our seasonal programming this year.

If you're fascinated by this history as much as we are - as well as a packed programme of things to do throughout the weekend - we've also got some brand new seasonal interpretation, launched this week, with a folklore theme. Discover the folk history and magic of this very special time of year.

And BEST of all - this weekend, we're open UNTIL 8PM on both Saturday and Sunday... so you can have an extra leisurely time here.

Owing to a cancellation, we have a handfasting ceremony available for Sunday 21 June at 4.30pm, as part of our midsummer weekend at the Museum.

Details of this magical opportunity are on the Museum's website (see What's On). This authentic and meaningful ceremony will take place in our stunning roundhouse, guided by our celebrant.

We'd love to see a special couple take advantage of this last minute availability, so please share this with anyone you think might be interested. Thank you! 🥰

One person we're particularly looking forward to welcoming to Ryedale Folk Museum for Midsummer is Olivia Graham - Celtic-inspired folk singer. Olivia will be performing at the museum on Sunday 21 June - in what promises to be a truly magical performance.

Olivia is well known for her entrancing storytelling and multi-instrumental performances, drawing inspiration from the rich history of folklore of Britain and Ireland. She’ll perform an array of songs, selected especially for the solstice on 2pm and 5pm, included in your museum admission.

The hobs couldn't decide what to have for pudding and mixed up three recipes: Syllabub, Anchovy Toast and Rhubarb Cake. Visitors were asked to decide what the hobs should make - watch the video to find out which recipe won!

Also, we have a little apology... if you took a recipe for Rhubarb Cake from the Schoolroom there may be a missing ingredient! You'll need to add 175g of caster sugar. Hannah the Hob says she's very sorry...

Have you booked your ticket for Solstice Yoga at the museum?

We've got so much going on across Midsummer, but we think the Yoga sessions are going to be extra special.

Join us for a Yoga session from an experienced practitioner, interspersed with time for reflection and meditation as we take inspiration from our Celtic forebears on this very special day of the year. Tickets available via the website.

We've made it to June - which means it's getting close to an exciting event that's very close to our hearts. This year we're launching a brand new weekend-long celebration of all things Midsummer across the 20 and 21 June.

✨The summer solstice has always been such an incredibly special - and magical - time of year. Inspired by centuries-old folk traditions, the museum will come alive with live music and folklore, with💛 special performances by Celtic Folk Musician Olivia Graham and Pickering choir The Ryelarks.

We have so much happening across the site - included within your entry ticket, or upon production of a valid annual ticket.

Don't miss our brand new seasonal interpretation, too, all about this special summer season.

And don't forget to book onto solstice Yoga sessions too! (Additional charge applies). Full details on the website.
