Just a few weeks to go until Charlotte Dawson’s exhibition, If Memory Serves Me Well, opens in Space 1.

Charlotte welcomed us into her studio to share the process behind making her work which explores memory, ritual, loss, and the emotional relationships we build with and within shared spaces.

Through sculptural intervention and material exploration, the work considers how traces of human presence become embedded within everyday environments; from sacred sites and roadside memorials to communal rituals and acts of remembrance.

Using materials associated with fragility and repair, including ceramics, fiberglass and artificial flowers, the work explores how spaces quietly hold emotional residue after people have passed through them.

The exhibition runs from Friday 10 July - Sunday 20 September, with the launch event taking place on Thursday 9 July, 6-9pm. The event is free and open to everyone!

Join artist Pheobe riley Law for a participatory listening workshop exploring sound, place, and the hidden environments that surround us.

Inspired by a sound walk created during a residency in Taalintehdas on the Finnish archipelago, this workshop invites participants to listen differently to Hull's urban landscape through a series of guided listening exercises, collective sound walk. Beginning at Humber Street Gallery, we'll tune into the city through a range of listening practices, using Jrf contact microphones, the naked ear, and radio receivers to uncover vibrations, atmospheres, and electromagnetic signals that often go unnoticed.

Drawing on ideas from psychogeography, the workshop explores how we construct our own "islands" through the sonic environments and localities we navigate in our daily lives. Together we'll map, listen and reflect on the sounds that shape our experience of place.

This workshop is open to anyone curious about sound, listening, walking, or experiencing their surroundings in a different ways.

Thursday 16th July, 6-9pm
Free for Fruit Factory Guild members, £5 for non-members.

We're looking for casual staff to join our team at Humber Street Gallery.

Based in our ground floor café/bar and rooftop garden bar, you'll be part of one of Hull's most unique hospitality venues, a contemporary art gallery that welcomes thousands of visitors every year for exhibitions, events, launches, talks and celebrations.

As a seasonal venue, we're busiest during the summer months, and we're looking for friendly, reliable and enthusiastic people who enjoy working with the public and being part of a busy team.

This isn't your average bar job. One day you might be serving visitors exploring an exhibition, the next helping create a great atmosphere for a rooftop event, exhibition launch or private hire. You'll be working at the heart of Hull's cultural quarter, surrounded by contemporary art, creativity and a diverse mix of audiences.

Previous hospitality experience is helpful, but attitude, personality and a willingness to get stuck in are just as important.

To apply, please send your CV and a short covering letter telling us a little about yourself and why you'd like to work with us to [email protected]

Closing date: Sunday 12 July
