Hull Urban Opera Yorkshire & Humberside’s innovative immersive opera company founded in 2017.

Hull Urban Opera Collective is a group of Hull-based artists who are passionate about opera. We believe that Hull deserves its own unique opera scene which reflects the city’s pragmatism, playfulness and sardonic sense of humour. Our work will appear at unusual venues throughout the city which release the force of each opera. Audiences will be guided through the experience in ways that allow them to directly share in the experiences of the characters.

Is anyone out there creating new outdoor opera for city streets?

Would you be willing to share your learning with me?

I’m writing an opera based on Hull myths whose plot uses a number of well-known locations centred around a single street in Hull. I want to avoid it becoming a broad pageant and would welcome advice on what levels of intimacy and introspection will hold in these distracting environments, or how you create conditions that will accommodate them. I’d also welcome advice on crowd shepherding and avoiding loss of momentum during promenades!

The Children of Beverley Gate is scheduled for Summer 2027.
