CTMusic Autumn Recital

At the weekend, we were delight to host family, friends & The Provost along to our first ever public recital.

It was a privilege to be able to share all of the hard work our students have put into their piano studies and to do so in the wonderful venue that is CentreStage (The Old Academy).

Very proud of everyone who took part and excited for what is to come for the CTeam!

*WANDAVISION SPOILERS*

Straight from the Marvel Universe's latest release on Disney+, we bring you the song that's been stuck in people's head since last weeks dramatic cliffhanger on WandaVision where Agatha Harkness was revealed through her own sitcom spin-off title credits.

We love the retro setting of this series giving nod to the sets, characters, storylines and music of classic American sitcoms such as 'The Dick Van D**e Show', 'Bewitched' & (in this instance) 'The Munsters'.

This video was a lot of fun to record and we hope you enjoy singing it at three o'clock in the morning when you are trying to get to sleep as much as we have.

SYLVESTER James Jr. (1947-1988)

We continue our with another artist in the spotlight.

Perhaps best know for the song "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", released in 1978, Sylvester was a publicly gay American singer-songwriter known for their androgynous appearance. Moving to San Francisco at the age of 22, they became a member of the avant-garde drag troupe, The Cockettes, before going on to pursue a solo career and later gained the moniker, the "Queen of Disco".

Diagnosed with AIDS in 1987, they sought to raise awareness of the impact of the virus within the African-American community before they died due to complications attributed to the virus in 1988. Prior to death, the ensured that any royalties from their music would continue to be donated to AIDS charities.

It's time for another !

This month we celebrate LGBT+ History Month and so we thought we'd look back at some of the moments and artists in music who played a role in story of the LGBT+ Community.

Released in late 1978, Gloria Gaynor's hit "I Will Survive" went on to become an unintentional LGBTQ anthem and remains so to this day. The Disco scene of the 70s & 80s offered a safe space for people who identified as LGBTQ+ from many different cultures to come together and socialise - a dance floor of diversity. The lyrics of "I Will Survive", that tell the story of a woman finding her voice to stand up to and kick her ex-lover out of her life, resonated with the message that people could be resilient, find their own voices and could get through whatever challenges came their way - our destiny is in our own hands. The song became an anthem of survival through the challenges the LGBT+ Community faced through the years, most prevalently the AIDS crisis of the 80s where the message of survival became literal. Despite the Demolition of Disco, the anthem and its message are still popular amongst the LGBT+ Community and a Pride Parade classic.
