Day 3/31 of the

Not my best composition or illustration (that southern comfort bottle is too squished) but it’s done! Pre painted background and drawn/painted ontop. I love the vibrant oranges shining through from the pre painted background. This took around 20 minutes.

It’s been a rough week, the pipe that delivers water to my flat burst 8 days ago, it flooded my neighbour and the water had to be shut off to my flat. I’ve been staying between my partners and my own flat, flushing the toilet with a bucket of water and using my very kind neighbours houses to fill up bottles and kettles. They have also been looking after my cat whilst I stay here, there and everywhere. Tomorrow the work starts to get the pipes fixed and I am SO RELIEVED.

Today I spent the day at East Kilbride Nature Reserve with my lovely other half and did a very vibrant and quick painting of one of the fields with quite possibly every material I own, it really cheered me up, I’ve been a walking grump for a while now!

On the side of the road near Stirling after setting up wedding flowers. I couldn’t resist that beautiful pinky/green meadow. Used the same materials as one of my practices the other because they worked so well!

Another practice for the upcoming this time a little scene from Brodick Castle gardens. Feel like I’m getting into the swing of things now, and seem to be really enjoying fluorescent pink. Think I may need a bit more contrast in this one but I feared I was going to over working it so left it as is.

This time I used -

Fluorescent Pink Acrylic Ink
Acrylic Gouache - Olive
Inktense Oak

Some more practice using the same 3 materials from the other day. This time the planty shelf and grumpy cat that sit above my head in the living room. Very much looking forward to starting the challenge for real!

This year I’m taking part in the 3 materials challenge in August, hosted by .durance and so I’ve been practicing and swatching to get used to using such limited materials. Spent 20 minutes painting the sunflowers I have in the kitchen.

It would be so easy to just pick my 3 favourite materials every time but I think a little wild card thrown in here or there will help. I’ve never used that neon pink gouache before, but it mixed beautifully with the orange watercolour. Terrible composition on the page but overall quite impressed by the range of colours and tones I managed to create in this little study.

Glass People - Escapism - Mixed media, gelli prints, painted textures/marking and digital collage.

Me collecting sea glass, with a sea glass body.

How do you escape?

I recently created a mini series of illustrations inspired by one of my favourite forms of escapism - hunting for sea glass around Ayrshire beaches. I’m a bit of a hoarder and have a very busy brain, so the act of slowly wandering the beaches and filling my pockets with colourful treasure is a great way to switch off the old chatterbox brain.

The project had me wondering what other people do to escape, whether that be good or bad forms of escapism.

Each illustration is a made of a mixture of handmade textures and make making, photographs of the sea glass for the bodies and digital collage.

Bird of Paradise foliage, an old sketchbook page from a year or so ago where I was testing how my neo colours sat ontop of a gouache background.

Dusted off my watercolours and made a very quick study from my visit to St Andrews Botanical Gardens last week. It’s been a while since I used my watercolours, a wildflower garden felt like the perfect subject to crack them back open and remember how to use them. Added some carandache luminance and neo colour at the end too.

Kibble Palace - Glasgow Botanical Gardens

I made this design last year, I have so many designs I’ve never uploaded, I seem to hoard my own art and never share it on my grid. Inspired by my trip to Seville I wanted to use a non local colour palette, some analogue and digital collage and some negative space. Mostly bits from old artwork and scanned in papers. It’s rare I actually finish anything.

Standing in The Kibble Palace is probably one of my favourite things to do, sniffing all the humid air and absorbing all the beautiful smells and colours. There’s no place like it.

Logo Design - Advanced Design Project

Swipe for design process

Would help if I actually had a name for the project! Everything I write down doesn’t seem to fit with my vision. It will appear when im doing the dishes or when im not using my brain.

The design has come from an illustration I did a few weeks ago based around the Ayrshire landscape. It incorporates seaweed, roots, paths and routes unknown. It may still be edited a little before the final project.
