Everyone in the Queue wants the same thing.
One person gets through the Gate each day.
The city is everything between you and it.
You arrive at the City of Gate with thirty copper coins, a stout stick, and the clothes on your back. Ahead of you, a queue of hundreds stretches toward a great stone arch cut into the mountain. Beyond it, H'vannah — paradise, they say. Peace. Belonging. Something greater than yourself.
The Gate opens once a day. One person is admitted.
Everyone believes it will be them.
The City of Gate is a branching-path novel. Every choice is yours. Every consequence follows. Navigate faction wars and soul debts, descend into Ratkin warrens and Duergar ruins, make deals with creatures who have been here longer than the city itself.
There are eight ways to win.
None of them are H'vannah.
Power is always extracted from someone.
