Soulka Weekend.
The hub is open today and tomorrow 11:00-15:00.
Plenty of menu options available as well as specials and sweet treats.
Some of the island artists and crafters don't have studios for visiting so we have an array of their work on display in the Hub also.

No David is not fishing with Ernest the Dachshund, he's now starting to record the sea temperatures around the island as well as microplastic counts. This is part of the Big Blue Bag initiative:

'The Big Blue Bag aims to become the largest citizen science initiative on earth in the next five years. It allows normal people, regardless of age, education levels, background, and location, to gather key data related to ocean health.

The system also educates and informs on key issues impacting the sea. All the data that is recorded is uploaded to a dedicated app'.

With this data along with the beach survey results it helps build an overall picture of the island and will be invaluable data to help highlight climate change, environmental issues, and general knowledge about the islands natural environment. Also Ernest seems quite taken with the thermometer- and is yet to realise it's not a ball.

The big red bin has landed!
Thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund we now have a clothes and fabric recycling bin outside the Craft Hub.
Please feel free to drop any clean clothes or fabrics that you no longer want or need and we hope to use some of these creatively either in workshops, or for the sewing group to reimagine into new creations to continue our efforts to be more sustainable.
Please no shoes, and dirty items.

Offering a varied menu using locally sourced ingredients including locally grown salad and free range eggs- and in response to one customer's question- no the eggs aren't artificially coloured- Sanday eggs are just that yellow.

Mural update- David has been in to the Sanday JH Community School this week to paint two hundred herring with the pupils. These will form an integral part in the mural and sweep across the wall.

Thank you to all the young people for contributing and to Miss Moodie and Angela for allowing the invasion of fish into their classrooms.
