The recent ASOS data breach has got me thinking about how I keep your data safe. It seems every year there's another hacking which can put our data at risk and enables criminals to access information we would prefer to restrict.
Many beauty businesses use online salon booking and upfront payment systems which hold clients' details. Every salon using that system can input data about their clients and their treatments. That would add up to a lot of personal data, dependent on the website for security.
As a small business I only keep paper copies of your data. These are the medical forms and treatment plans that you sign each time you come in. None of this is transferred online, onto a salon booking system or onto my computer. These forms are all kept in locked metal filing cabinets. After six years I have a big clear-out and destroy these paper files.
Your treatment photos are collated into a treatment collage soon after your treatment. I use an online collage system for this, but no names or ways of identifying you are created. Each photo has a code, and match up to a code on the paper copy treatment plans. Without having the treatment plans, your data cannot be matched to your photo.
The photo collage is transferred onto a disk and then all of your photos are deleted from the computer and my camera soon after. My camera isn't connected to the internet, unlike phone cameras.
Your colour boost reminders are sent individually by myself, by following a paper list that I create. No website or booking system is involved.
It's all very old school, but eliminates the risks of data insecurity from modern systems. You can be assured that your data is as safe as it can be with me!
