Meadow Road or Gas Street?🤔

Today, if you stroll down Meadow Road, you'll find Love Kettering's outdoor exhibition with artworks from 25 local artists. But over a century ago, when the road was called something else, you may have seen just one artist working at his easel.

"Sunset, Gas Street" is typical of WT Wright's paintings. They capture Kettering in the early 1900s, a snapshot of our ever-changing town. Sometimes the buildings have changed, sometimes the streets have different names.

Wright was AEG's first curator. When he died in 1917, he left this watercolour to the Gallery. We still have it today❤️

Have you seen the new exhibition on Meadow Road?

Love Kettering's outdoor gallery features 25 artworks from local artists - all varied, vibrant, and helping to brighten up our streets. A showcase of Kettering talent and another example of how much creativity there is in our town😊

We were asked to judge all the entries - a real honour but a difficult task. All were brilliant and we wish there was room for them all!

Big thanks to the Love Kettering team for the time and passion they put into this project❤️

Last week, we attended STEAM Northants to chat to teachers and children about Kettering's historic gallery and art collection.

This annual careers event is massive. Over 3,000 kids from schools all over the county descend onto University of Northampton to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths - and we were right there in the thick of it😃

So many kids told us they had never been to an art gallery before. We want to change that. Our redeveloped Learning programme begins when our doors reopen in October, giving schools the opportunity to discover art and local history on their doorstep.

A picture so good, we had to frame it🖼️

We stepped into the artwork for KettFest on Saturday and the response was incredible. A massive thank you to the almost TWO THOUSAND people who came to Manor House Gardens - we chatted about art, our October reopening plans, got silly and had a fantastic time.

Kettering Library's Spoken Word Stage brought the poetry and we brought the art. This was by far our busiest KettFest and we couldn't be happier😊

Shout out to all those that made it happen - Kettering Town Council, Laugh Out Loud Theatre Company and Love Kettering plus the volunteers from Friends of Kettering Art Gallery and Museum and Friends of Kettering Library ❤️

Let's do it again next year🎉
