This is an incredibly hard post to write.
But after 30 truly wonderful years and our last performance which will be on the 12th July,
Genesis is closing its doors.
We have been observing the slow change in theatre and performance venues from community lead to corporate run over the last 5 years, and we are incredibly tired of having to jump through hoops just to maintain 1 weekly class.
Not to mention the council making it ever more difficult to put on performances of any kind.
Aside from these things which have largely been out of our control, Anoushka and I both feel this is a bit of devine timing - as we would both like a break.
Genesis has been our life & certainly all of Anoushka's! As we first opened 30 years ago.
Other than half terms and for family events, we have never had weekends off. And with Anoushka's daughter Amari turning 2 and a half, we are longing to sieze some much needed family time on a Saturday.
We're going out on a performance that has been so emotional to write. Not just because of the parallels of what is going on in the world today but because of the great turmoil we have felt making this massive decision.
The Genesis family spans far and wide and over 3 decades! Many pupils arrive as young as age 4 or 5 and don’t leave until 18.
Keeping in touch with genesis alumni, we have seen genesis marriages and new children being born from these marriages, who then enrol in Genesis and so the cycles have continued. We love to follow all of the amazing genesis success stories, always feeling so proud of every one of you and the journeys you have had and continue to excel on.
We hope that this is not goodbye forever...
(We aren't writing off the possibility of Summer Schools- so you never know!)
But for now at least, after what will no doubt be an INCREDIBLE performance from our cast on the 12th of July, we will share our teary goodbyes.
Please give our cast & the Genesis name the send off it deserves (the tickets are free of charge after all- although any contributuons would be gratefully received)
And bring as many people as you can to cheer, laugh, applaud and cry with us on the 12th.
Show starts at 1pm!
We will be organising a little send off picnic at Wicksteed or East Carlton over the summer break after the performance.
Details to follow.
Everyone and families are welcome!
This feels like the end of an era, but we thank you all for being such a significant part of our life.
