at the renowned Furniture
College in Letterfrack,
Co. David’s love for wood and interest in finding new uses led to the creation of a range of jewellery which was inspired by Irelands Celtic Past, the beautiful Irish landscape and the relationship Ireland has with the Un
ited States of America. All this has been captured and inspired in this collection named “The First Chapter”. This collection is broken into two ranges “The Celtic Range” and “The Design Range”. A mix of Native Irish Hardwoods and American Hardwoods are used throughout the collection. Kerry where the family name Monson has been well known since the 1890’s after David’s Great Grandfather, a Swedish Dairy Engineer came to Ireland to set up Dairy Creameries. He fell in love with Ireland and ended up settling to have a family of 3 sons and 1 daughter. When he retired he worked on his hobby making all sorts of items from wood such as horses wheels from locally sourced woods. All of the siblings emigrated to Chicago in the US in the early part of the 1940’s except for David’s Grandfather who stayed in the family home in Co. David’s father also stayed in the family home and this is where all Monson Irish Jewellery is made today.
