🧶 A New Knitting Season is Coming! 🍂

As the summer holidays come to an end and a new knitting season begins, Metropolitan is getting ready to bring you more machine knitting content!

From September, we’ll be expanding our subscription section with more video lessons, articles, patterns and new learning materials.

We’ll continue our machine knitting course step by step, exploring new techniques and helping you build confidence and skills at your own pace.

During the coming season, we’ll also start looking at garment making, bringing together the methods and techniques learned throughout our lessons and showing how they can be used in real projects—from understanding construction and shaping to creating finished knitted garments.

Whether you are completely new to machine knitting or simply want to develop your skills further, there will be plenty more to discover and try. 🧶❤️

We’re looking forward to another creative season of learning, experimenting and, of course, lots of knitting!

The Secret Behind Ribbing Elasticity

Not all ribbing behaves the same! The combination of knit and purl stitches has a huge impact on how your fabric stretches, recovers, and drapes.

A balanced rib, such as 1×1, is usually the most elastic, while wider combinations like 2×2, 3×1, or 3×2 gradually change the fabric’s stretch, stability, and appearance. Even a small change in the knit-to-purl ratio - sequence can make a big difference to the finished garment.

Tuck Stitch Without a Punchcard 🧶🧶🧶

You don’t need a punchcard knitting machine to enjoy the beautiful texture of tuck stitch. While punchcards automatically select the needles for you, the very same effect can be achieved manually on knitting machines without a punchcard function.

Although manual needle selection takes a little more time, it gives you complete control over the design and allows you to create beautiful tuck stitch patterns on machines such as the LK150 and many other flatbed knitting machines without automatic patterning.

More intricate tuck stitch patterns naturally require greater concentration, careful needle selection, and a little more practice. However, with patience and experience, even complex tuck stitch designs are entirely achievable without a punchcard, making this a valuable skill for every machine knitter to master ❤️
