Yesterday, a full house was invited to listen to music from around the globe as we celebrated the extraordinary diversity of voices that make up our world. At its heart, our concert shone a light on the power of collective singing, which is of course why we were all at The Old Shire Hall on a Sunday afternoon. Singing together brings us joy, keeps us sane and is enormously good for the soul. Frank Ticheli summed it up perfectly in Earth Song:

“But music and singing have been my refuge,
And music and singing shall be my light.”

This afternoon, we welcomed Alison Insley, Kenilworth Mayor, and her consort to our summer concert. Such a special afternoon.

A very enjoyable afternoon filled with vibrant melodies and cultural celebration, with the talented Warwickshire Singers, at the lovely location of Old Shire Hall in Warwick.

Echoes of tradition, world folk and choral music by Warwickshire Singers, is their summer concert series celebrating global folk traditions, featuring vibrant arrangements of songs from Ireland, Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Kenilworth based singing group hosting 'Come and Sing Day'

Just over a week to go until our summer concert, so time to introduce you to Gianpiero Greatorex, our baritone soloist. Gianpiero studies with Jonathan Gunthorpe at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He enjoys singing with various choral societies and choirs, including the Elgar Scholars and the RBC Chamber Choir conducted by Laura Bailie/Jim Bate and Julian Wilkins respectively. Gp has been passionate about choral music since childhood. In August 2025 he had his gala debut in the International Celebrate Voice Festival, performing works by Donizetti and Mascagni alongside Monica McGhee, Phillip Smith and Robert Forrest. In March 2026 he debuted his first principal role as Jupiter, in the RBC Spring Production of Offenbach’s Orpheé aux enfers, conducted by Paul Wingfield and directed by Rebecca Meltzer. Two weeks to go until our summer concert, so time to introduce you to our soprano soloist, Evelyn Byford. Evelyn will be entering her fourth year at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in September. She boasts extensive choral and solo experience with ensembles such as Rodolfus Choir, Elgar Scholars and RBC Chamber Choir, including solo roles in recent album recordings. Evelyn began her choral journey at Wi******er Cathedral, where she was Head Chorister, and has just completed a year with ExCathedra as Student Scholar. What a treat to be able to sing with her! Meet our super sopranos! Often teased for being “me, me, me”, in reality they’re more “la, la, la” as they’re the crucial icing on the musical cake. Sopranos often provide the most recognisable part of a piece - the melody - making them the essential, front-facing, stand-out part for all choir pieces… and they have to save a bit of breath for making the high notes seem effortless!
