Moora Moora which means 'Good Spirit' is an Aboriginal word. The indigenous people of Australia have one of the most beautiful connections with their land. Their affinity to their environment and the knowledge to allign themselves with it makes them resilient and perhaps, the oldest living cultures in the world today. As I spent hours looking for a name on the net and searched deep within my hear
t, the name Moora Moora stood out from the moment I saw it on one of the lists of Aboriginal words. With a profound meaning, Moora Moora resonated the inspiration behind my designs and my state of mind as I create them. Mosaic was a chance discovery for me and it all started at the Kur-ring-gai Art Centre in Sydney in 2010. Having spent a good 4 years with my family in Sydney, Moora Moora brought back lovely memories of our travels across Australia, the longest being our 3 week long car holiday from Sydney to the centre of the continent, Uluru or the Ayers Rock, down South through Adelaide, Melbourne and back to Sydney. These memories hold a special place in my heart. This page is dedicated to all the hours that I spend in my home studio, thinking, drifting, zoning out, consumed by it and endlessly imagining all the possibilities with colours, shapes and patterns. Each design and mosaic piece at Moora Moora is unique. Detailed patterns that are conjured up by my hyper creative mind are executed using different cutting techniques in keeping with the essence of the art. And this is my biggest source of joy, inner peace and contentment. Starting from an imagination and moving to a sketch, from colours to the direction and flow of tiles, from final cutting and laying of the tesserae to grouting and finishing, the entire process is uplifting and liberating. I am only too glad to immortalise my time in the beautiful country of Australia by naming my creations 'Moora Moora' and to continue my journey with this art form in this part of the world.
