Kendal Classics Behind the Scenes: Part 1

With our first season of concerts now over we're taking a little time to look back at some of the events we've enjoyed, with the aid of some previously unpublished photos. TONIGHT! It's the last concert of the Kendal Classics season this evening, and we're going out with a bang with Beethoven's Symphony No.5. We'll be welcoming conductor Delyana Lazarova and our friends the Royal Northern Sinfonia, as well as soloist Samuel Niederhauser, with the concert including music by Shostakovich and Ravel too.

Due to an injury, cellist Jaemin Han is now sadly unable to perform at this Saturday's concert.

We're very grateful to Samuel Niederhauser for stepping in at short notice to replace him as soloist for Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No.1. A multi-award winning cellist, Samuel has performed as a soloist with orchestras including the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and Vienna International Chamber Orchestra.

We look forward to welcoming him, and you, to this, the last concert of our current season!

The word 'iconic' is a bit over-used these days, but we're pretty confident it can be applied to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.

With those simple 4 notes, 'da da da daaa', Beethoven changed the course of musical history and created music which over 200 years later still gets played and played - for very good reason.

Thank you to everyone who packed our recent Vaughan Williams concert with the Hallé out, it was fabulous to see a totally full hall!

We're back with our next concert on 12 April when Royal Northern Sinfonia perform Mozart's delicately beautiful Violin Concerto No.5, Schubert's most popular symphony, also No.5, and the evening is capped with Beethoven's lively and optimistic Symphony No 2. The brilliant violinist Maria Włoszczowska is both soloist and director.
