Event Spotlight

The Qawwali concert with Qaisar Mahmood Qawwal was a first for Keighley Arts and Film Festival this year, but we hope that this will be a regular event that happens in Keighley.

Qawwali is a Sufi devotional form known as the “path of the heart” The traditional music works its way to ecstatic peaks with strong voices and percussive hand claps, seeking to transport musicians and audiences closer to the divine.

The Qaisar Mahmood Qawwali Group was established in 1985 and is the leading and most experienced Qawwali group in the UK.

Who’s joining us for Shane’s Festive SINGO?

SINGO is just like BINGO except the numbers are replaced with songs or singers. Host, Shane, a musician from Leeds with over 20 years of performing experience, sings and plays piano live, you be entertained and cross off boxes on your SINGO sheet! There are prizes to be won, Christmas refreshments will be provided on a donation basis and we ask you to bring along your drink of choice.

Do I have to sing, we hear you ask? OF COURSE NOT! But singing and dancing along with Shane is happily encouraged. So put on your glad rags and get into the Christmas spirit with us.

We have big news for Keighley Arts & Film Festival! We’ve moved!

Our founding organisation Keighley Creative have moved out of Old Sunwin House and into the Old Argos Building in the centre of town on Cooke Street, whilst they negotiate the purchase of permanent premises. The KAFF team is pleased with the move and we can’t wait to be hosting events in our new home, the first is next Tuesday, for Shane’s Christmas SINGO!

We are delighted to be sharing our new home with The Unit, an open-access production space backed by Channel 4 and Bradford Council in partnership with Keighley Creative and Impact Hub Bradford. The hub is designed for the district’s already accomplished filmmakers and content creators and a place to improve opportunities that are sustainable for employability in commercial TV and film production.

Keep an eye on social media for any upcoming events and opportunities to get involved and see our new place. We’re getting settled in nicely and we look forward to seeing you all very soon!

Who carried a star at the lantern parade this year?

This year the KAFF team were delighted to work alongside Cecil Green Arts, Q20 Events, Punjabi Roots Academy, Keighley College, local primary schools and the team at Cliffe Castle Parks, Bradford Museums and Galleries to bring Keighley the Star Lantern Parade this year.

One visitor to the lantern parade said that it was “Excellent… really good for Keighley. Bringing a sense of community and joy.”

Join our friends at Keighley Photo Hub this Saturday for the launch of PHOTOSYNTHESIS.

The exhibition includes work by individuals from Cliffe Castle Support Group , Keighley College , Highfield Community Association (Keighley) , Lion's Den Shed and Keighley Healthy Living.

These groups have worked with Lisa Holmes Photography , director of Keighley Photo Hub, to learn how to make anthotypes. The process uses sunlight and eco-friendly solutions from different plants to create art. You will also be able to see the cyanotype artwork created by visitors to Keighley Arts & Film Festival.

Head to the glasshouses at Cliffe Castle between 4pm and 6pm on Saturday (3rd) for the launch of the light-show with festive performances by Haworth Brass Band and Keighley Rock Choir. There will also be winter warmer refreshments available raising money for Keighley’s Good Food Project.

We are delighted to announce that our friends from Keighley Photo Hub are launching the Photosynthesis Festival this weekend.

Did you join Keighley Photo Hub’s director, Lisa Holmes Photography, for the cyanotype workshop at this year’s Keighley Arts & Film Festival? Well now is your chance to see your work displayed. The exhibition also includes anthotype pieces created by individuals from Cliffe Castle Support Group, Keighley College, Highfield Community Centre, The Lion's Den - Shed Cliffe Castle and Keighley Healthy Living.

Head to Cliffe Castle’s glasshouses this Saturday (3rd) between 4pm and 6pm to experience this beautiful exhibition, as well as the projections of Hope project, performances by Haworth Brass Band and Keighley Rock Choir and there will be winter warmer refreshments provided raising money for Keighley’s Good Food Project.

‘Tis the weekend to be jolly and to get the whole family in the Christmas spirit.

Head down this Sunday (27th) and join Keighley Town Council and the Airedale Shopping Centre for the official Keighley Christmas Light Switch On.

Mooch around the Christmas market on Low Street of over 40 stalls for the perfect Christmas gift, take a browse around the Airedale Centre and maybe catch some performances and workshops to get involved with along the way and make sure you head to the main stage for performances by Marigold Addams as Cher, Voices of Yorkshire and The Trologies.

The official light switch on will be done by Bradley Johnson at 4:30pm.

This event is being hosted by Keighley Town Council and the Airedale Shopping Centre. Keighley Creative are delighted to be helping our partners at this weekend of festivities.
