Choir Friends
You can have a full week — work, washing, sorting the kids out... all of it — and still feel like you haven’t properly connected with anyone.
Not in a big dramatic way. Just that little feeling of “I haven’t actually had a proper laugh with someone for ages.”
That’s one of the things choir gives people. You turn up, maybe a bit tired in your work clothes, maybe wondering why you left the house. You stand next to someone you didn’t know a year ago. You have a bit of a sing. You concentrate. You have a laugh when it goes a bit wrong, and you keep singing.
And somehow, without it being forced or awkward, those people sat next to you become your people! Your friends, someone to walk to dog with, someone you bump into and catch up with at Lidl, someone who kids go to the same school as your kids, or grandchildren!
You start to notice if someone’s missing one week, so you drop them a WhatsApp and check in, and they do the same for you. You end up sat in the pub with them after a choir session and the conversation goes from daft to deep in about three minutes flat.
It’s not therapy or a “support group”. It’s just a group of normal men and women who like singing — and who end up looking out for each other.
That feeling of belonging, of being expected, of someone saving you a seat… it does you the world of good.
If that sounds like something you’d quite like more of, have a look at what we’re up to.
