Remember this big beastie? He's now got a total of 7 different surface treatments carefully painted on by yours truly. These are the 'before' shots as it went into the kiln today. We'll have to wait till Monday to see how the glazes have (hopefully) worked together to create really interesting layers of colouring and finishes. I'm really looking forwards to opening the kiln Monday morning!

If anyone's interested, the products used are: stoned denim, pink opal, green opal, satin patina and blue stone, as well as dark brown engobe and yellow underglaze. Phew.

Today’s clay ornament workshop at Connectfest was such a positive experience.

I spent the day with people from across the community, helping them create small clay keepsakes carrying words, initials, memories and meaning. With only a few letters to work with, people chose carefully: LOVE, DAD, children's initials, and names of people close to their hearts. One participant even used her wedding ring to leave an imprint in the clay, which was so deeply moving.

It was also wonderful to meet so many local organisations, including some that have supported me and my family during difficult times. Seeing so many people dedicated to helping others left me feeling incredibly hopeful and really postive about the future.

Thank you to the Inspire South Tyneside team and everyone who stopped by.

This morning I'm at Connectfest with the wonderful Inspire South Tyneside team, inviting people to slow down, get creative, and make their own clay ornaments. ✨

It's always a joy to see conversations start around a table of clay, with simple making becoming a way to connect, share stories, and spend time together. Looking forward to meeting lots of lovely people throughout the day!

Brilliant day today with doing some raku firing! I love how this spiky shell has come out, it's keep loads of texture and has a lovely metallic green/blue/gold from the glaze.

The glazing has begun....

Each piece is being given a jet black underglaze wash, and then selected pieces will be accented with mineral coloured glazes. I can't wait to get them all displayed together!

Today I travelled to Leeds to see From The Depths installed at The Sculpture Gallery. Moments like this make all the hours in the studio worthwhile, and I'm honoured to be one of the selected artists for Sculpture North 2026.

Decorating one of my 100 botanical/deep sea creature ceramic pieces. This is black underglaze on stoneware clay, and will need another firing to finish it off.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking my From The Depths sculpture to The Sculpture Gallery in Leeds. The gallery is set in the most gorgeous building, the Corn Exchange, and Steve and Dave were so friendly and professional. I'm really looking forwards to the opening event this Sunday!

Last year I made a project for The Wrong Biennale where I repeatedly used AI to reinterpret one of my ceramic sculptures. The original form slowly mutated through layers of machine and human interpretation until it became something completely different.

Then recently someone recreated one of the AI-generated versions as a physical sculpture and posted it online as their own original work πŸ‘€

It genuinely made me stop and think about where authorship and ownership end once AI enters the process.

What do you think - at what point does an artwork become something entirely new?
