Today was the first day of the SHAF Arts Trail here at Erme Art Studios. Sarah Ringrose and Sara Gilbert Artist welcomed visitors to their studios. The Trail runs from 11 to 26 October and we will be open on Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun, 10 till 4. Come along and have a look at our work and chat about what we do and have a go at printmaking. Tea, coffee, cake and biscuits are available too. We look forward to seeing you.

The time has come to say farewell to my fellow artist and friend Belinda Ireland after six years together here at Erme Art Studios. Where we survived the ups and downs of the Covid years. Belinda has moved to Ashburton and is always welcome back for a cuppa and a chat. Soon I will be welcoming in local artist Sarah Ringrose who makes wonderfully vibrant prints and paintings of birds and flowers, among other things. Watch this space for more news! This weekend Sara co-hosted a Book Arts workshop with fellow artist and master bookbinder Gaynor Williams at Art House studios in South Brent. We had 9 talented students who all produced some wonderful work. They all made two single section books and one multi section book in this two day workshop. Sara facilitated the printed element in the form of monoprints from leaves. Some students had never done any printmaking before but soon got stuck in and embraced the activity. Many thanks to the very talented Gaynor who provided the structural element and kept everyone on track!

PRINTMAKING WORKSHOPS
Come along and try printmaking with Sara Gilbert. Personalised tuition in linocut, drypoint, collagraph, fabric printing and paper lithography. Sara will guide you with step by step instructions on how to make your own printing plates, helping you with design, inking-up, colour-mixing, registration, preparing paper and using an etching press. Suitable for beginners or those wishing to brush-up your skills or experiment. Contact Sara to discuss options. Prices are for two people sharing:-
Half day (3 hours) £35 per person.
All day (6 hours) £70 per person.
Materials and light refreshments included.

I ran a Collagraph printmaking workshop this morning. This was the second session of two for two lovely students who had a very productive time making prints. In the first session they made the plates and in the second they sealed and printed them. Great work Val and Kym and thanks for bringing the home made cake!

I was contacted by a student who wanted to do a 5 week beginners printmaking course to celebrate her retirement! Last week we started with monotype and looked at a few techniques, it was a nice gentle way of getting used to rolling out inks and the printing process. The course will include drypoint, linocut and collagraph techniques. I would like to run this for more students, keeping the group small, I think four would be a good number in the space available. If anyone is interested please get in touch. It will be on Wednesday mornings and costs £150 for five weeks.
