This weeks Khutbah at Murrayside:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
All praise is due to Allah, who made steadfastness and patience among the greatest qualities of the believers, and who made patience a light by which a servant can endure hardship, adversity, trials, and exhaustion, and I bear witness that there is no god except Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that our master Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, the leader of the prophets, and upon his family and companions, the leaders of righteousness and guidance, may Allah send His prayers and peace upon them all.
As for what follows,
Indeed among the greatest qualities of the believer is patience. Faith consists of two halves, half of it is patience and half of it is gratitude. A believer is not free from either blessings that require gratitude, or hardships that require patience. Allah the Most High has said, "Indeed Allah is with the patient." And He, Glorified and Exalted is He, has said, "And give glad tidings to the patient."
And Allah the Most High has said, "Indeed the patient will be given their reward without measure."
And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "How remarkable is the affair of the believer, all of his affairs are good for him. If something pleasing comes to him, he is grateful, and that is good for him, and if hardship befalls him, he is patient, and that is good for him."
The believer continues to move through all his circumstances with certainty and trust in his Lord.
And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said that Allah the Most High says, "When I test My servant by taking away his two beloved things," meaning his eyes, "and he remains patient, I compensate him with Paradise."
And he, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "How can one who has no patience have forbearance, and how can one who has no forbearance have wisdom, and how can one who has no wisdom possess true understanding."
And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Patience is a light."
And he, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "When Allah has decreed for a servant a rank that he does not reach through his deeds, Allah tests him in his body, or in his wealth, or in his child, then grants him patience over that, until he reaches the rank that Allah had decreed for him."
So seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.
"Until, when you are in the ships and they sail with them by a good wind, and they rejoice therein."
Indeed in that are signs for every patient and grateful person.

The theme of this khutbah is **patience during trials and gratitude during blessings**, presenting them as the two foundations of a believer's relationship with Allah. The khutbah emphasises that hardships are not necessarily punishments, but can be a means by which Allah elevates a person's rank and draws them closer to Him.
