Deep in the misty lochs of Scotland, legends tell of the Kelpies, beautiful shape-shifting water spirits that appear as magnificent black horses. Their manes drip with water, their eyes are like moonlight, and they are said to be irresistible.
But beware….
They draw you to them, and when an unsuspecting mortal climbs onto a Kelpie’s back, its skin turns sticky, trapping its rider in place. There is no escape as the Kelpie gallops into the dark waters, dragging its victim beneath the surface forever. Used as a story to scare children from going to close to the water, it held a warning lesson.
Kelpies can take human form, luring people close with haunting songs or charm only to reveal their true nature when it’s too late.
