I’ve had a few days off but it’s back to work for me today, there’s a very busy week ahead. I’ll be demonstrating at the Highland Folk Museum on Wednesday. I’m looking forward to that, come and say hello if you are in the area. On Saturday I have a class making Corn Dollies for harvest at the The Bennachie Visitor Centre , more details on my website about that. And then on Sunday we have our monthly Scottish Straw Workers meeting in Chapel Village Hall, all welcome! So lots of preparation to be done. Enjoy your week!

HERITAGE CRAFT IN ACTION!

For our last Heritage in Action day next Wednesday (26th August), we’re delighted to be joined by Elaine Lindsay , who will be demonstrating straw-working and corn dolly making.

During the day Elaine will be demonstrating and chatting about Hairst (harvest knots), what they were, and why and how they were made.

Visitors are invited to make their own Hairst Knot to take away with them. It’s a great souvenir from your visit to the museum, and a wonderful chance to learn about this rural craft and try it out for yourself.

We’ll also have rope making, coracles, spinning, textiles crafts, thatching, waulking the cloth, and shinty demos happening across the site on Wednesday! Don’t miss your last chance of the summer to come along and take part.

I go away to teach and look what arrives at home! Plenty to keep me busy for a while.
