Some people may be aware that it is National Playlist Day, which relates to the amazing charity Playlist for Life, a nationwide organisation that aims to help people living with dementia and those who care for them. It harnesses the power of music by encouraging those involved to create a playlist of music that is personally meaningful to them or their loved ones. Strongly supported by Sir Alex Ferguson, their website offers resources and personal stories of the ways that music playlists can help. Check out https://www.playlistforlife.org.uk/
As a Charitable Choir, we truly understand the power of music to soothe, inspire, bring back precious memories - or just to enjoy and bring a smile to the day! 😄

We are so lucky to have Ula Weber as our Choir Leader! She's not only inspirational and engaging, but also very experienced. Until recently, Ula conducted the CBSO SO Vocal (a 200-strong community choir run by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra), the CBSO Children’s Chorus, HSBC UK Choir and the Birmingham City Council Choir. She is the founder and Musical Director of The National Polish folk choir and the National Teachers' Choir (coming to the Highlands in October). Ula guest-conducts at National and International events and is regularly invited to lead Big Sings and other singing, training, and corporate workshops for choirs and organisations including ABCD, BBC, Big Noise Scotland, NYCOS, National Youth Choir of Scotland, Sing Up, and numerous Music Hubs across the UK. Having been recently shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society’s prestigious Inspiration Award, we are delighted and proud to have her lead us. There are always a lot of laughs, as well as the serious stuff of rehearsing and performing. She has a famous phrase - "All Will be Well" - and it always is, when Ula is around! 😍

It's National Fitness Day - we thought it appropriate to celebrate the physical benefits of singing and being in a Community Choir, such as ours. 😍

Continuing with the mini-series featuring our amazing accompanist and arranger, Baz Chapman, here's what he thinks about actually creating those arrangements, especially for The People's Show Choir and The People's Orchestra -
The trick, he reckons, is knowing when to get out of the way. “There's a balance between having something to say in an arrangement – a new perspective that only a choir can bring - and not making it about the arranger’s skill. The song and the singers are what should shine.” Writing for TPSC brings its own puzzle. An arrangement has to work just as well in a village hall with a piano as it does in a gig venue with a rhythm section, or with an orchestra with a flexible line up. “So I start small in terms of scope, but always big in terms of ambition,” he says, “and then have great fun building up the textures into something that will really land in a venue like Symphony Hall with a choir of five hundred.” “Creating the arrangement – from that early spark to a finished thing that people enjoy singing – is probably the most rewarding thing I do.” Long may your creativity reward us, we say! 😄😍

Can't wait to be performing at the fabulous Symphony Hall later in the year! 🥰

Some of our doughty choir members are taking part in the charity bike ride Bridge to Bridge Highland Cycle tomorrow morning. They start at Kyleakin on the West Coast and finish near the RNLI station in North Kessock (from around 1pm estimated). We wish them strong legs, lots of stamina, lots of cakes, and good conditions along the way and, importantly, lots of sponsorship and donations - please look out for them along their route tomorrow, or welcome them home - and drop a few notes/coins, whatever you wish, in their collection buckets! Be safe everyone - and enjoy it! 🤞🤞

🚴 ROAD USER NOTICE | SATURDAY 12 SEPTEMBER

This Saturday, hundreds of cyclists will take on the 77-mile Bridge to Bridge Highland Cycle, travelling from the Skye Bridge to the Kessock Bridge in support of local Highland charities. ❤️

📍 The route starts in Kyleakin, travelling via Strathcarron, Achnasheen and Garve before finishing in North Kessock.

If you’re travelling in these areas on Saturday, please be aware that you may encounter groups of cyclists at different points along the route throughout the day, they set off at 8.30am from Kyleakin.

We’re asking road users to please:

🚗 Give cyclists plenty of space when passing
👀 Take extra care on bends and narrower sections of road
⏱️ Be patient and only overtake when it’s safe to do so

Our riders have trained hard, fundraised and are taking on an epic challenge to support some brilliant causes across the Highlands.

A little extra patience and consideration will help everyone enjoy the day safely.

And if you spot our riders along the way, give them a wave or a cheer – they’ve got 77 miles to get through! 🙌

Thank you for helping us look after everyone taking part. ❤️

"Love" really did "Shine a Light" at the start of our rehearsal for last night's concert at Midmills Church! We loved singing our Summer repertoire again in front of a very appreciative and interactive audience - phone cameras were involved! Thanks again to Ccraig Cconnon for organising this event and inviting us, we really enjoyed it and hopefully a good amount of money was raised. 😄
