We continue to be asked regularly by people on weekly basis, and any time we appear @ the Clachnaharry when we're going weekly. We should say... we were weekly, then we were stood down in order to save costs. The matter is out of our hands and the decision is one for the management themselves.

Sorry to sound as if we're dodging the issue - far from it... but the decision is not ours and one for the management. Customers will be aware there are several businesses in town that close Mon & Tues, or even Sundays; as well as some that don't open until early evenings. This is a situation borne of Covid, which very much still affects business even now, and every penny counts when spending, even on things like entertainment :)

The entertaining and Quiz Nighs are not a hobby for myself and Lewis ~ this is our living, and when venues are asked to stage entertainment, then it's hoped customers come along, and keep coming along to support it regularly. It really is a case of 'use it or lose it' when venues put entertainment on. We go where the work is ;)

To speak to 'The Clachnaharry and express your views', please contact them directly via their own page where we're sure they'll be happy to respond. Always in support ~ Thank You !

There's an expression, mainly attributed to Scotland, or people of Scots background and it poses the question "dae ye think ah came up the (River) Clyde oan a banana boat"? The River Clyde during wartime(s) had a huge cargo and industrial background and thousands of boats, puffers, and cargo boats came and went.

So did the Clyde offer an import opportunity for bananas, and was there really cargos of the fruit of the world's biggest herb plant - member of the berry family - the banana?

No, "cargo boats carrying bananas" was not a literal description of ships on the River Clyde; it's a phrase used in Scotland to describe someone who is foolish or naive, implying they are so gullible that they had "come up the Clyde on a banana boat".

While the River Clyde historically handled various forms of trade, the phrase's origins are linked to a perceived wartime shortage of bananas, suggesting that anyone believing the story was a gullible sort of person.

So there you go, it appears overwhelmingly to be a myth or a saying designed to suggest those believing such a thing existed and believed to be true by gullible people.
