Balnain Bears

Balnain Bears I'm based in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland. In my little corner of calm, I spin my own yarn, knit bespoke bears, coos & other animals.

I also knit unique, one off hats, scarves & wrist warmers. I also dye small batches of yarn, all 100% wool.

I know it's only September, but I've been thinking about a Balnain Bears Advent calendar! I have been spured on by my fellow crafter Get Lit with Shelley. Shelly has 5 advent calendars for sale on her page so pop over & take a look.

What do you think? Ideas gratefully recieved on a Balnain Bears calendar.

Well, Bangers the bad Bear & his little side kick Oliver are home. They turned up looking like drowned rats.
Do you know what Bangers pinched today? The farmers quad bike.
Poor Oliver Bear come home petrified, oh Bangers is such a naughty bear.
He told Oliver that we given him permission to go out for lunch & he said that the farmer had told him it was ok to borrow the quad. What am I going to do with him ?
He has been racing around the Glen on the "borrowed" quad bike. I apologise now if Bangers has been noisy around anyone's road. I definitely think I need to get working on a female to keep him in line until he is adopted.

The latest batch of hand dyed non mulesed DK Merino yarn.
This yarn is hand dyed by myself in small batches.
It is an average of 100g - 230 metres.
A 100g is £16.50. The yarn is unique as I don't keep recipes. If there is a yarn colourway that you like & would need more for a particular project please don't hesitate to ask.

Well, what can I say? I'm yet again having to apologise. I'm very sorry to Shelly from Get Lit with Shelley. I'm afraid Bangers managed somehow to get into Inverness to your workshop. He has "borrowed" his explanation not mine!! Some of your beautiful candles. He is being made to return them as I explained borrowed things always have to be returned.
To top it all he turned up at home. riding someone's little pony.
I really don't know what to do with him.
I'm hoping someone might just adopt him VERY soon.
I was thinking that maybe he needs the calming influence of a female friend, what do you think? x

As you all know I spin my own yarn. I love Merino fibre especially, It is lovely, soft & cuddly.

But, have you heard of Mulesing?

Mulesing is a extremely cruel procedure whereas very young lambs have chunks of skin cut from there behinds. This causes scaring, the scared skin does not allow the growth of fleece. This, in turn can help to eliminate fly strike. Thankfully, it is illegal in the UK, New Zealand & most of Europe.

This procedure is, however still legal & widely practice in Australia.

The procedure is done mostly without using any anaesthetic or pain relief, this is usually because it would cost so much for sheep farmers as their Merino sheep flock are huge & therefore would take so much of there profits.

I do not support this barbaric cruelty of animals. This is why all my Merino fleece comes from World of Wool. All their fibre has been ethically sourced from farms were sheep have not been subject to this cruel treatment.

Merino sheep can be breed with less wrinkles & therefore, they have less chance of flystrike.
Merino fibre is lovely, and you can live in the knowledge that I will never use mulesed merino fibre.

The photo below is of a beautiful merino sheep, as you can see they have more wrinkles than me & that's saying something.

Please meet the extremely naughty Bangers the bear. He has been so naughty all week, he has point blank refused to have any photos taken, has shut the cat in the dog crate. Hidden car key, hand bags & been on the Internet ordering pizza from the Highland Deli Pizza.
Can someone please adopt him quickly. I'm sure he will calm down in a nice calm home. x
