Explore Abernethy Explore Abernethy Visitor Centre and path network

Explore Abernethy is a community led heritage and access initiative in Nethy Bridge, lying in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland. Set up in 1997, it manages a 45km path network around Nethy Bridge and Abernethy Forest, as well as a visitor centre in Nethy Bridge Community Centre. It also stages events of cultural interest, including a programme of summer talks and occasional history and nature walks.

Volunteers needed!!!

On Thursday, October 22nd, Explore Abernethy volunteers will be carrying out vital repairs to help restore the Birchwood Trail to its accessibility standard. We will be moving aggregate from its delivery point to where needed on the trail and, under the direction of a professional, filling holes and subsided areas and improving the surface.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to the upkeep of our lovely village trails and get the enormous satisfaction of working with other keen volunteers. We would love to welcome you along.

Volunteers wanted!!!
The next Explore Abernethy volunteer sessions are on Sunday, 23rd August, Wednesday, 16th September and Thursday, 22nd October. All start at the Visitor Centre at 10am and are of varying lengths, never ending later than 3pm.
Main tasks will include putting up new or replacement signs, clearing vegetation and sprucing up bridges and boardwalks.
The sessions are fun and sociable, so do come along and feel free to bring a friend or family member

There has been some damage to the Puggy Line Trail, at the Tulloch road end, caused by the rapidly constructed firebreak. It is currently very muddy, with running water, made worse by the recent rain.
NatureScot are aware and are assessing what can be done to keep this passable. In the meantime, cautionary signs are in place and there are plans ro lay a short section of boardwalk.

Another very successful Explore Abernethy history walk, despite the rain. We started in the Old Kirk, learning about the ancient baptismal font and the 1898 Constable King murder, then crossed the amazing new bridge across the Aultmore, where we learned about the bridge itself and nearby Aultmore House. Then we headed into the School Wood to the giant sawdust heap, and found out about the various timber camps and prisoner of war camps in the village during both world wars. Thanks to everyone who contributed and the many who braved the rain to attend.
