Craftivism / The Art of gentle protest

At the Nairn Book and Art Festival 2026 we had the privilege to have craftivist and author Sarah Corbett from England to introduce us to the concept of gentle protest through craftivism.
She offered a workshop and a talk and we were given a brooch kit. On the banner we embroidered a word for something we love and want to protect from climate change. I thought of the gorgeous Scottish rainforest which is home to some very unique lichens and mosses, and of course is at risk just now. Each participant had a beautiful thing to protect and to invite strangers to ask “why do you have such and such written there” to start a conversation about the things we love and want to protect.
We will “wear our heart on our sleeves” but hopefully with joy and hope rather than with aggressivity and fear, inviting others to think of what they would love to protect in such hard times.

Finally I managed to sit down, and update the website with some of the Asian works…

The latest community art group was all about feeling inspired by our own uniqueness… fingerprints!

Such a small detail opened a door to creativity.

Week 8 of missing Lochgilphead and particularly the folks at the Snowdrop Argyll Snowdrop Centre… you guys have been so good to us!!
These are some photos I used in my proposal to start an art group inspired by the Wednesday group at the centre. Because online it is not the same thing 😭 thank you so much for welcoming both me and baby Frieda, we felt at home and with family. Karen, Claire, Lorraine, Morag, Isobel, Donna, Myra, Phyllis, Kara, Roxy, Susan, Sabrina my fellow Italian vegan of course… you are such a wonderful bunch - sorry if I’m forgetting anyone 🥴 and of course Margaret. The time in Lochgilphead will stay in my heart because of all of you ❤️

How’s this ride being for you? As intense as promised?

It has been quite interesting, with lots of lessons already. I try to sit with the discomfort, and make space for contrasting emotions to coexist… Optimism and hopelessness. Joy and despair. Gratitude and grief.
It has been intense so far, right?
