Memories…
I found these in my office.
I miss Helen Furness a lot, and think of her often. Here was one of her soirées at the old railway station in Walkerburn. She loved it there. We all had a grand time and I sang ‘Anthem’ from Chess & Helen’s cat Kari, a beautiful Siamese took a shine to Wee Mark & sat on his lap all night. Helen documented all the photos for me. I would take any piece of music and Helen would play the piano and let me sing. She was one of a kind. I hope you’re having a wonderful time in Heaven Helen, because the gates I know were opened wide for you.

The end of an era…

As the only remaining founder member of the choir, and after 12 1/2 years, it is with profound sadness to announce the choir made the decision this evening to close.

Despite repeated attempts to attract new members, or welcome old ones back, there haven’t been any forthcoming. So we found ourselves in a situation where if even if one person was unavailable, we couldn’t function effectively. This situation was likely to get worse, not better.

I shall remember our founder Helen Furness with fondness and admiration, who accompanied me in many a solo, and the good times with the many talented singers who gave their time to the choir over the years at our many concerts and events for the Tweed Valley and surrounding areas.

I wish all my fellow choir members and supporters of the choir the very best.

May those who dreamed of the TVMV be fulfilled with 12 1/2 years of excellence. It’s now time for us all to follow our own dreams.

The world-famous Treorchy Choir are coming to the Borders!

They will be performing three fundraising concerts, including one in Galashiels on Saturday 6th August at 7pm at the Volunteer Hall.

The concert will include songs from musicals, film, and West End theatre productions as well as songs of national pride. There will, no doubt, be plenty of emotions on the night.

All profits generated from ticket sales, sponsors and donations will be split between local charities which include The Margaret Kerr Unit at Borders General Hospital and the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust.

Tickets can be purchased at The Trophy Guy on Market Street, and at Fountain News, just opposite the fountain.

How lovely for us all to sing at the New Beginnings Flower and Music Festival at Eddleston Kirk this afternoon. We’ve worked hard on a new repertoire which was very well received. Particular highlights were ‘An Eriskay Love Lilt’, ‘You Raise Me Up’ & ‘Santa Lucia’. Thanks to the enthusiastic & welcoming audience.

It was a delight for the choir to sing at the beautiful Traquair house this afternoon. Lots of enthusiasm from our lovely audience washed down with some mulled wine and a mince pie! An important milestone: and testimony to our resilience through what’s been a challenging year or two.
