Bank Holiday done… but half term is still going strong, and so is the sunshine! ☀️

With Ilfracombe feeling properly warm this week, it’s the perfect time to seek out those cooler corners, shady spots and sea-breezy escapes.

Here are a few lovely places to cool down:

⛪ St Nicholas Chapel Ilfracombe – climb up to Lantern Hill for harbour views and a peaceful moment in one of Ilfracombe’s most historic spots.
🐟 Ilfracombe Aquarium – cool, calm and full of fascinating local marine life, from Exmoor streams to the waters around Lundy.
🏛️ Ilfracombe Museum – packed with curious collections and perfect for a slower wander out of the heat.
🚤 RNLI Ilfracombe Lifeboat Station – pop in when open and take a look around the lifeboats, learn a little more about the crew’s lifesaving work, and pick up some sea safety tips while you’re there.
🍰 Hele Corn Mill & Tea Room – a shady little heritage treat, with cream teas never far away.
🌳 Bicclescombe Park – trees, green space and a gentle breather away from the bustle.
⛵ Boat trips from the harbour – get out on the water and enjoy that unbeatable coastal breeze.

Snail with a snorkel!

The Common Whelk (Buccinum undatum) waves it's "snorkel" back and forth to "sniff" the water currents. By comparing the strength of a scent from different angles, they can pinpoint exactly where a meal is located from a significant distance away, moving toward it with surprising speed for a sea snail!
