Woolly Wisdom Wednesday 🧶🧼

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗬𝗮𝗿𝗻 "𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗺" 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴?

Have you ever finished a project and thought...
"That doesn't quite look like the picture..." 😅

Before you panic, try washing and blocking it first!

Natural fibres often bloom after their first wash. This means the fibres relax, soften and settle into their final shape.

✨ Stitches become more even
✨ Lace opens up
✨ Fabric softens
✨ The overall drape improves

This blanket is still waiting for its first wash and block. Once it's finished, I'll share the transformation!

💡 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺:
Don't judge your knitting or crochet until it's had a bath. Some projects don't reveal their true potential until after blocking 🧶💛

It's a rather grey but warm start to the day, but hopefully the sunshine will make an appearance soon! ☀️

Time for a little spotlight on one of our wonderful customers 📣✨

The lovely Jess is the first of our CAL group to finish the Blossom Blanket from UK Hand Knitting — and honestly… isn’t it absolutely fabulous?! 🌸🧶

We love that she decided to dive into her yarn stash for this project, giving the blanket a beautiful rich, autumnal feel 🍂💛

Proof that sometimes going a little off-piste with colours and making a pattern your own is absolutely worth it ✨

Huge well done Jess, and thank you for bringing it into the shop to show us. Seeing it finished has completely reignited my motivation to finally get mine sewn together 😅

Not my first pair of socks… but my first pair I’ve actually knitted for myself! 🧦✨

And I can officially say — I am a complete convert to the two-at-a-time technique. Absolutely obsessed.

No second sock syndrome, matching socks every time, and somehow even more satisfying watching them grow together on the needles 🧶💛

Luckily, I have a lot of sock yarn in my stash waiting to be used… so naturally my new goal is a handmade pair for every day of the week 👀

I picked up this yarn during a trip to Oxford with a friend from the lovely — although that was over 2 years ago and the label has long since vanished into the knitting abyss, so please don’t ask me what it is 😅

Did you know your needles can affect your tension?
Same yarn. Same pattern. Same knitter…
But different needles can create a completely different fabric 👀

✨ 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀
Smooth and slippery — great for speed, but some knitters find they knit more loosely with them.

✨ 𝗕𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗼 & 𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀
Warmer in the hands with a little more grip, often helping create a steadier tension.

✨ 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘀
Circulars, straights and DPNs can all feel slightly different to knit with too — especially depending on the weight of the project. It's always worth knitting your swatch on the needles you will use for that project.

💡 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺:
If your tension is slightly off, changing your needle material can sometimes help just as much as changing needle size!

Fully Woolly is officially back open after a lovely week away in Portugal — and while we may be missing the sunshine already, it’s so lovely to be back in Hythe and surrounded by yarn again! ✨

The shelves are full, the online orders are packed and ready to head out, and we’re looking forward to hearing all about what you’ve been up to while we were away.

So if you’re out and about today, pop into town, have a wander around the market, support some wonderful local businesses, and come say hello at Fully Woolly! We’ve missed you all 💛

Fresh off the plane from Portugal yesterday, we jumped straight into the Fully Woolly mobile this morning and headed to South Molton for a weekend full of yarny goodness! 🧶🚗✨

I’ve been looking forward to this weekend for well over a year and, honestly, it’s already exceeded expectations 💛

Today we had the incredible opportunity to visit the warehouse of , meet all the wonderful machines, and watch them hard at work bringing yarn to life — absolutely fascinating!

Tomorrow is another exciting day, with a Maths for Knitters workshop in the morning and a talk all about different wool blends in the afternoon 🥰

And to make it even better, we’re staying on a beautiful farm with plenty of cat cuddles to keep Mr Fully Woolly happy 🐈✨

Honestly? Absolute heaven.

Going away doesn’t mean leaving your projects behind 😉

A little holiday crafting can be the perfect way to relax — whether that’s by the pool, on the plane, or with a glass of something cold in the evening ☀️🍹

Here are our 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 for crafting in the heat!

✨ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹
Socks, shawls, granny squares and sleeves are much nicer to handle than a full woolly jumper on your lap.

✨ 𝗦𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲
Natural light = lovely
Direct sun + dark yarn = less lovely ☀️

✨ 𝗕𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗼 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀 & 𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱
Metal and plastic can feel hot and sticky in warm weather, while bamboo stays cooler and has a little more grip.

✨ 𝗔 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗰𝘂𝗺 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽
Warm hands + sticky yarn = frustrating crafting. A tiny bit of talc can help everything glide more smoothly.

Cotton, linen and bamboo yarns are ideal summer companions.
