PLEASE HELP!!!

We're into the final two days of the Mether screening at the Piazza Centre. We would like to say thanks to everyone who has been involved in showing work with us, helping run events and supporting us through promotion.

We are hoping to return to Huddersfield with new projects soon. In order to do this we rely on feedback from visitors and supporters. We would love it if you could fill out this 1 minute survey on all things YTT. Its really helpful for us to get funding in the future.

Daniel John Jones' amazing video work 'Luminance (Christmas 1942-2011)’, 2019 runs until tomorrow evening. So hurry on down!

From Wednesday Louis Gauger will take over with 'Das kann mir keiner nehmen'. A video work through which Gauger reproduce's set designs from televised german schlager performances in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Gauger shares these works on Instagram alongside documentation of how Gauger translate the performances into a 3-dimensional, digital space. Apart from being a piece of entertainment in itself, the work also is a meta-take on todays retromanic content consumerism - our obsession with authenticity and being earnest, expressed as a triangulation of purchasable objects and staged snaps on today’s most used communication channel: social media.

Today we are launching 'Luminance (Christmas 1942-2011)’, 2019 by Daniel John Jones at the Piazza Shopping Centre Huddersfield.

We are pleased to present a new commissions from Daniel John Jones. Luminance (Christmas 1942-2011) takes a selection of popular Christmas films and reassembles them, frame-by-frame, in brightness order. This process creates an ever-pulsing loop, gradually fading from the black of night to the blinding white of lights and snow.

We’re very excited to be launching our screening of “Elvis” by Libby Heaney. A two channel video work using machine learning to explore deep fake face swap techniques. Here is Libby talking to the BBC World Business Report about the challenges of deepfakes.

The ‘Mether’ screening of Libby’s work is taking place from 3pm - 9pm at the Piazza Shopping centre in Huddersfield.

We are kicking off a new programme of work with Yan Tan Tether this week. Our screening programme 'Mether' at Huddersfield's Piazza Shopping Centre starts with 'Elvis' by Libby Heaney.

'Elvis' is a two channel video portrait of the artist as Elvis and Elvis as the artist using a machine learning technique known as deep fake face swap. Since Elvis and Libby have different facial structures, there's a subtle blurring of identity - a non-binary Elvis - an uncanny hybrid of them both. Audience members come to the piece with the assumption that both screens are showing the original Elvis, but then notice the differences due to the deep fakes. The piece highlights the constructed nature of gender, particularly in relation to recent digital technologies. Elvis invites the audience into a reimagined history where the King of Rock and Roll was actually a womxn. The work questions the notion of male author genius and also talks about our desire and consumption around the cult of celebrity.
