Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra

Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra We are an orchestra based in the Colne Valley, Huddersfield. We also have a Light Orchestra of 10-12 players for playing at functions.

Every season we perform 4 big concerts in Huddersfield Town Hall plus others in Slaithwaite and further afield. SPO does 4 big concerts a year in the beautiful Huddersfield Town Hall plus 2 smaller Concerts in Slaithwaite and occasional extra concerts by invitation. There is a small fee involved for using the Light Orchestra. All proceeds go towards funding the SPO. SPO is registered charity no.50

Manuel de Falla - Three Cornered Hat suites 1 and 2
Dmitri Shostakovich - Symphony No.5

The Four Sea Interludes by Benjamin Britten take you to the East Coast of England with some very descriptive Sea related music. The final interlude 'Storm' is featured in the BBC 10 Pieces Scheme. Manuel de Falla's Three-Cornered Hat Suites 1 and 2 are light-hearted and bursting with Spanish flavour.

Shostakovich famously wrote his 5th Symphony in response to Stalin's Great Purge. It is a very powerful work packed with deep emotion, beauty and joy.
