Excited to have Marsden Cuckoo Day Festival back. Lots to see and do in Marsden today, you might even spot the fabled Marsden Cuckoo!
It's that time of year again where the village comes together to give our lovely area a good spring clean, organised by the wonderful folks at Positively Marsden.
This weekend is our chance to get it done as a community. There are skips outside the Marsden Mechanics from today until Sunday for litter that has been collected.

I've swapped my painting studio for a print studio this week as part of an Arts Council England funded project. I've been experimenting with collagraph and drypoint printing, which has been fun and frustrating in equal measure! Excited to start some monoprints next week.
Almost finished this atmospheric panoramic painting. The 80x30cm canvas is a different size for me, but it seems to work well with the wide-open landscapes I paint.
I've been busy with commissions recently but you can see a selection of my painting in the Autumn Exhibition at Enjoy Art, which in on for one more week.

Staying cool in the studio this week working on an ultra panoramic commission.
Here's a closer look at some of the beautiful ceramics from David Preston Ceramics currently on show at Marsden Art Studio as part Holmfirth Artweek Fringe Trail. The studio is open every day this week between 10am-3pm, and the final day is this Saturday (10th July). 20% from sales go to charities supported by Artweek.
Texture is a key part of my paintings, which I mainly achieve with a palette knife and oil paints (or heavy body acrylics), building and scraping back paint to leave marks behind and reveal hidden layers.

I was working today so I had to watch the snowfall from the comfort of a cosy gallery -- but the boots will be on and I'll be out and about tomorrow, all being well.
Evening Sky, recently completed commission. I thought it might have been too yellow but thankfully the customer loved it!

We're doing our hardest not to panic, but we always wanted to open by the end of October and we have decided to make it official.
We will be opening to the public this Halloween! There's still a hell of a lot for us to complete and work on (hence us working from 6am this morning) but I think we are going to smash it!
A massive thank you to everyone who has been keeping us so busy with orders whilst we are in this period of transition, you make our hearts dance 🖤

Hello, just to let you know that, after 6 years, Sharon is stepping away from Enjoy Art. Co-owner, Kevin Threlfall, is at taking things forward with an exciting new artist led studio & sales space.
We’re closing the doors to Enjoy Art at the end of July and we’ve got a “Closing” sale on with reductions on our current Herdy & card stock. Many of our Artists are also offering reductions on some of their work - so now is a great time to pop in and treat yourself or plan ahead with your present buying.
Kevin’s new venture should be opening early September so keep your eye out for that.

A few new paintings in the studio window this week.
Today is Imbolc, which celebrates the first day of Spring. We have a fantastic event in Marsden this evening to mark the event, which culminates in fireworks and an epic battle between the Green Man (Spring) and Jack Frost (Winter). I made this piece in porcelain of the Green Man at The Clay Mill last year.

Helping to hang Justin Robert Price's exhibition at the @thehandmadebakery this morning. It's great to finally see Justin's work all together. It's on for the next 6 weeks (Tuesday to Sunday).
Happy 125th birthday to the National Trust! The work they do at Marsden Moor is incredible. They have an amazing team of volunteers and rangers that spend hundreds of hours so we can enjoy the beautiful countryside we have.
The view's still stunning, but look how things have changed in Marsden. We wanted to share this photo of our office when it was being renovated as part of the National Trust's 125th Birthday celebrations. If you've got any old photos of you enjoying Marsden Moor, please share below.

Marsden Art Studio is the art studio & gallery of landscape artist Kevin Threlfall, nestled in the heart of the Pennines in the Colne Valley.
