A coalition of 21 state attorneys general is suing the administration of US President Donald Trump for attempting to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and several other agencies through executive orders and actions that, the group says in its legal filing, "are illegal several times over".

The lawsuit, filed Friday (4 April) by the top legal officers for states including California, Illinois, New York, Rhode Island, Wisconsin and more, comes after most of the agency's employees were placed on administrative leave on March 31. The 85% reduction in staff followed Trump’s executive order naming the agency as one of several federal bodies to be “eliminated to the maximum extent of applicable law".

“The Trump administration is once again violating the US Constitution and the rule of law by attempting to unilaterally shut down agencies the president doesn’t like, including agencies that give the public access to facts, knowledge, and cultural heritage for free or at low cost,” Rob Bonta, the attorney general of California, said in a statement.

New year, new beginnings for Port Sunlight's historic Fire Engine Station 🔥

We're excited to welcome acclaimed artist Emma Rodgers to the village, who is breathing new life into the Grade II listed building as her new studio, workshop and exhibitions space. Emma is known for her sculptures, including the statue of Cilla Black in Liverpool’s Mathew Street as well as the world’s largest Liver Bird. She has also forged an artistic partnership with comedian and artist Johnny Vegas, who will also occasionally be making use of the Fire Engine Station as a studio space.
