Today I did some mixed media sketching inspired by the landscapes of The Moors. I used moss, old bits of heather and even let the rain spatter the paper. These pieces feel weathered, wild and full of the atmosphere of the North York Moors.

I’ll be open again this coming weekend for North Yorkshire Open Studios at Wath Court Studio, Hovingham - and on Sunday morning I’ll also be running a relaxed Watercolour Taster Session.

10am–12pm
£35 including materials

We’ll be painting a loose and expressive seascape in watercolour in a calm and welcoming studio setting. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Places will be limited so the session stays small and informal.

Runswick Bay this morning …. before it got busy. This is one of my favourite inspirations for painting.

I had 2 swims, head under as well. It was so cold! When we were in Andalusia recently swimming in the sea there was quite a chill - and I thought ‘I don’t think the North Sea is much colder!’

And super excited and grateful to be part of such a great group of 200 artists. North Yorkshire really is so inspiring - no wonder there are so many amazing artists here. :)

A week of colour, connection, creativity, sunshine, stillness, laughter, yoga, sketchbooks, shared meals - and beautiful people.

Sooo grateful for this wonderful group who joined us at Casa Surrender for our painting and yoga retreat in Andalusia. Thank you all for bringing your warmth, openness, creativity and energy to the week :)

Lots of smiles at today’s Mediterranean painting session.

We were working with creating warm sunny colours from just 3 primaries.

It’s always such a pleasure to paint with this group. Some of these wonderful people have been coming along for nearly 2 years now, which means a lot.
