Lately in the studio 💙🦋💙 working on stock, stock and more stock ! Second slide is a finished example piece for my tile activity for my shop opening where you can come and decorate/carve/texture a tile - less than two weeks until my grand opening !!!!! So excited to open the doors of my new studio!

A very warm Hornsea Collective welcome to Jess of Jess’s Clay Studio!

We’re always excited to welcome a brand-new independent business to our growing small business community, and this one brings even more creativity to Hornsea!

Jess is the talented ceramicist behind Jess’s Clay Studio, a new pottery studio opening right here in Hornsea, East Yorkshire.

It’s fantastic to see another creative business choosing to establish itself in our town, adding to Hornsea’s growing community of artists, makers and independent businesses. A dedicated pottery studio also brings new opportunities for people to discover clay, get creative and experience the joy of making something themselves.

As a Collective, one of the things we love most is seeing people take that leap and turn their skills, creativity and ideas into a new independent business. We’re looking forward to following Jess’s journey as the studio develops and sharing plenty more about what she’ll be offering.

✨ POTTERY CLASSES & WORKSHOPS AT JESS’S CLAY STUDIO ✨

Fancy getting your hands muddy and making something of your own? 🏺

Jess’s Clay Studio offers a range of relaxed, beginner-friendly pottery classes and workshops in the heart of Hornsea.

Whether you’ve never touched clay before or you’re looking to develop your skills, there’s something for everyone!

👐 Handbuilding Courses
Learn the basics of working with clay over a 5-week course, exploring pinch pots, coiling, slabs and glazing.

🏺 Wheel Throwing Tasters
Always wanted to try the pottery wheel? Come along for a relaxed 2½-hour session and have a go at throwing your own pots.

☕ One-Off Pottery Workshops
Spend a few creative hours making something special, from mugs and plant pots to seasonal workshops and more.

🎨 Private Pottery Lessons
Looking for a little more one-to-one guidance? Private wheel throwing sessions are also available or one-to-one handbuilding for specific projects.

All classes are held at my little pottery studio in Hornsea, with small class sizes so you can have plenty of guidance along the way.

✨I’d love for you to join me for the opening weekend of my new studio! ✨

10am-4pm each day

Come and see the transformed space of the last 6 months!💗 as well as browse the classes and courses on offer, and make a tile for the community tile mural which I will be putting up in the shop on one of the wall spaces ! The tiles will be an opportunity for mark making and a chance for people to touch clay whether they have done pottery before or have no experience, it’s free and open to all !

Mums been helping me paint my shop sign I’m so looking forward to seeing it above the shop 😍
And Daisy’s been giving me a hand with creating a few example tiles in readiness for the opening weekend ! Pressing in stones and shells 🐚 I’ll get these fired and glazed so that I can lay them out for people to see what the tiles might look like when making 🌀

SO!!!!!!! Incase you didn’t know….. I’m opening up a pottery studio in East Yorkshire ✨ in Hornsea ! my own studio where I will be creating my pots, but also very importantly, passing on my knowledge and skills to others by running classes, courses and 1:1 tuition for focused practices.
This has been a work in progress since March when I got the keys, it’s been a huuuge project and I’ve somehow managed to fit it in around my classes and making commitments, but we’re getting there, baby steps !
I will be opening from the 5th September! And I will be putting on a launch weekend for the 5th and 6th in the studio where you can come and celebrate the opening with me, see the space, explore classes and courses as well as browse pots and make a tile for a community mural that I will glaze and put up in the studio in the coming months- I will post a photo of my poster containing all the details this week ✨

The space has transformed since March, it’s had a new lick of paint wall to ceiling, a really good scrub and a whole new floor, aswell as getting the old windows restored and able to open and shut as they had been painted shut. Louis has built me the most INCREDIBLE table and I’ve managed to move most of my equipment up from Lincolnshire in batches and made a makeshift studio in the storage room so that I could still make work whilst we have been preparing the space. If you’d like to see the timeline of our renovations, I’m on Substack and my profile is called ‘Today in my Pottery life’. It’s been so good documenting the work we have done over the months.
