Any ideas where our latest poster and letter are from?

Here's the fact that makes the whole village feel like it's stepped out of another century. The cobbled main street drops so steeply down to the harbour that cars have never been allowed on it, not once, since the village was built.

Everything still gets moved the old way, by sledge, hauled up and down the slope by hand or by donkey, past whitewashed cottages that tumble almost on top of each other toward the sea.

Should we put our masterpieces on mugs and make your morning coffee routine a work of art? 🤔 These limited edition, personalised beauties will be the talk of the town... and also dishwasher and microwave safe, just because ... priorities. 😂

And if you don't want the mug then you can have a greeting card, travel poster or postcard .....

Here's a defence that never shows up in a single photograph. St John's Fortress has guarded the entrance to Dubrovnik's Old Port since the 1300s, but the cleverest part of the system was invisible by day. Every night, a heavy iron chain was hauled across the harbour mouth, from the fortress to the jetty on the other side, sealing the whole port shut against pirates and enemy ships. The old Arsenal entrances were walled up too, just to be thorough.

Nothing's left to see of it now, just calm water and fishing boats, but for centuries this harbour genuinely locked itself in at night.

I've painted it for the newest addition to the travel poster series, with a matching postcard too. The poster also arrives with a letter home if you fancy the full story

I love it when a masterpiece has a bit of spite baked into it, and the Trevi Fountain has plenty. While Nicola Salvi was building it, there was a barbershop right next door, and the barber never stopped complaining, about the noise, the crowds, the whole disruption to his business.

So Salvi did what any Baroque architect with a flair for the dramatic would do. He carved a stone vase into the design, tall enough to block the barber’s shopfront from anyone standing in the piazza. Romans still call it the Asso di Coppe, the Ace of Cups, after the playing card it looks like. Salvi died in 1751, the fountain only half built, so he never even got to see it finished, let alone the barber’s face when his shop vanished from the view.

There's a building in Barcelona that took 144 years to finish, and the man who started it never got to see it done.

Antoni Gaudí took over the Sagrada Família in 1883. He gave it the rest of his life, working on it right up until he was killed by a tram in 1926, still dressed so plainly that nobody at the scene realised who he was.

This June, on the exact centenary of his death, the final central tower was completed and the Sagrada Família became the tallest church in the world.

I've painted it for the newest addition to the travel poster series, with a matching postcard too. Both come with a letter home if you fancy one, telling this whole story properly. Link in the comments.
