Network regeneration

This latest work in progress explores the multitude of connections formed by mycelium networks and their interaction with our inevitably decaying cityscapes. I am looking at the ways in which decay is vital within the natural work to ensure new growth and exploring how this connects to regeneration within our cities. Where our cities follow rigid patterns the fungus does not. It grows in the cracks that form and shapes the space, reimagining it into something new.

It's been a busy start to the year. I have been running a wide range of community arts workshops throughout the North. We have learnt mandala drawing, pen and wash, bird feeders building, mindful watercolour, acrylic painting and had a go at making our own South Asian inspired decorative truck art. Keep an eye out for upcoming workshops.

A Different Perspective

In life it is easy to view the world through the narrow lens of our own experiences. This limited viewpoint can blind us to the beauty, complexity, and richness that surround us. But when we choose to look closer, when we commit to learning, to listening, and to engaging with people who see the world differently to us then our perspective begins to shift. Every person, every place, and every landscape carries a unique story. By exploring the past, working together, and remaining open to meaningful discussion, we begin to understand those stories more deeply.
As our understanding expands, so too does our capacity for empathy. And with empathy comes the potential to build a more tolerant, inclusive, and compassionate society.

I've started work on a new piece inspired by the mushrooms I've photographed on recent walks. I love the idea of exploring the role mushrooms have in the circle of life. For me they are a symbol of change, regrowth and hope.

Our cities are places of extreme contrasts. I try to capture these contrasts within my work. In my latest piece I am examining the stark difference between the crumbling interior of an apartment and the grand architecture of the city.
