☀️ Important Visitor Update ☀️

Due to the severe heat forecast for this week, we have made the difficult decision to close Holmes Chapel Zoo on Wednesday and Thursday.

With temperatures expected to reach around 32°C on Wednesday and up to 36°C on Thursday, our priority must be the welfare of our animals, visitors, staff and volunteers.

While many of our animals naturally come from warmer climates, these extreme temperatures can still impact their wellbeing, and we want to ensure they remain as comfortable as possible. Equally, much of the zoo is outdoors and we do not feel it would be enjoyable or safe for visitors to spend extended periods in such intense heat.

We know this may disappoint those who were planning to visit, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. All pre-booked tickets for these dates have been contacted directly and offered the opportunity to transfer their visit to another day.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to welcoming you back when the temperatures are a little kinder to both our animals and our visitors. Hopefully on Friday, as long as the temperatures have dropped. ❤️🐾

Jelani, the African Spotted Eagle Owl…

Jelani keeps missing the leather glove when he’s flying and stands on our arms. Ouch! 😣

We offer the opportunity to hold owls like Jelani every day after the Owl Talks. Only £5 and children as young as 2 can hold our smaller owls 🦉 Please bear in mind if you want to hold the big boy Jelani himself, you must be 6+. We use different owls every day so if you come back another time, you may get to hold Shreya, the Indian Scops Owl, Merindah, the Boobook Owl or even Beau, the Barn Owl! Just ask when you arrive and we’ll let you know which owl is working that day 😊
