G'Day Folks

Just a reminder of Jazz to come tomorrow 26th May,

venue Grayshott Social Club, time 7.30 to 10pm.

Once more, The Dixie Demons of Bill will be on hand to provide up-to-date versions of traditional jazz.

Helen and I would like to thank all the people who make jazz available to the good folk of Grayshott while we are imprisoned on the continent of Australia. Isobel and team have very kindly agreed to reserve tables for our regular jazzers.

As well as Isobel, a big shout of thanks to Charlie Wincott who single-handedly puts out the furniture on Jazz days.

Cheers for that Charlie much appreciated.

Unfortunately Andy's car is kaput so I have booked Mike Henry (Magic) as a dep for tommorrow.

Dave is getting better but not sure if he will be singing.

Maurice will be on Banjo again tomorrow.

But next month, for a change, I have booked Andy Clancy on keyboard to replace the banjo.

I'm also looking at booking Sue Greenaway as a special guest in June.

Jazz Newsletter October

Jazz time again folks!

Remember it is on the 31st October - a week on Tuesday - and not today.

The usual display of talent will be on show including Bill.

Helen and I will be in transit at the time but will be re-assured that the hardy souls of Grayshott will be tapping their feet to their monthly fix of Jazz courtesy of Bill’s Dixie Demons.

Having had our fill of Wallaby Waffles, Bluebottle pancakes, Kangaroo Korma and Crown Roast of Wombat Helen and I are looking forward to some good old English stodge on our return.

We could have done with your rain out here - it’s early Spring and already we have had to evacuate the house in Mogareeka as the bushfires at Bermagui (20 ks north) were heading our way. Fortunately for us and are neighbours the wind changed direction Eastward and out to the Pacific Ocean and we were able to return home later that night.
Even 5 days after the initial fire there were still 300 fire fighters at the scene.

There is a great unspoken spirit of camaraderie in Australia and I believe it could be that the people live very close to nature out here and never know from one day to the next whether fire or flood will have a say in their survival.
However the grandeur and magnificence of the flora and fauna that this country possesses makes the risk of rural living here worth while for many stoic Australians

Good Evening Folks & Greetings From Australia

Firstly, I would like to extend my grateful thanks to Isobel who held the fort last night at this month's Jazz Session.

The usual suspects were luckily on hand to provide a range of syncopated sound from the jazz catalogue. Unfortunately, Colly could not join us as he was performing in Swindon with his other band - The Harry Strutters Hot Rythmn Orchestra.

I have been thinking of you all whilst I am eating my toast in the mornings, and hope you all enjoyed last night's session.

Last Thursday, I did a gig at the Merimbula Jazz Club. A Six piece trad outfit that also included a very fine (youngish) trombone player, Robert Moffat.

Happy New Year to all Jazz Fans!

The Jazz Club will continue to operate on the last Tuesday of the month, Concerts will be interspersed and are usually held on a Tuesday. We kick off the new decade with our (now regular) Post Christmas Blues Concert on Tuesday 7th January with Cat Skellington featuring our very own Richard White. Cat Skellington recreate the music of Django Reinhardt and the Quintette of The Hot Club of France with guitar supremo Hugo Boswell taking the role of the great man himself. Tickets are available at the Social Club. Please note that this concert begins at 7.30pm.
