John Stilgoe, Artist Welcome. Johns drawings, paintings, cartoons and illustrations have been used in everything from greetings cards n books to web sites and presentations.

I have been fortunate enough to make it a career and have taught art to children and adults for over 30 years. My interests are wide ranging but at the heart of everything is my love of drawing. I was fortunate to have Jack Shore as head of my first art school in Chester, he was excellent at teaching us the importance of accurate observation and expressive mark making. My art interests are diverse including landscapes, house portraits, cartoons, book illustrations, t shirt designs and even photography. My range of media has narrowed recently but I am equally happy working with traditional media (graphite, ink, oil paint, acrylic, soft pastel, watercolour and digital/computer graphics.

As a result of my exhibition in Feb this year I was asked to illustrate a book for a local author. It’s all done now. In a few weeks the same gallery is holding an exhibition called ‘art as process’. I’ve decided to enter with some pics about how one the illustrations was created. This is just a flavour (the pics are landscape and portrait to create a block in the frame.

Exciting times. A book I’ve been illustrating since Feb this year is finally in print. These are a few of the pics. They look particularly good as the kindle version because it’s possible to zoom in on the images.
